My and Pascal's prediction competition is now closed, with 60 entries.

I should point out that, according to the rules, only the entries up to and including Pascal's own on 31st May will count in the competition itself. Those who chose to wait to enter until after Test Day, whilst no doubt having the benefit of that experience, did so in the knowledge that their entry will not be part of the competition. We will of course assess the outcome both with and without the later entries.

I've been asked what the point was of keeping it running until after the Test Day, and I think the extra 32 entries speak for themselves. I'd rather have 60 than 28..... even if half of them won't count for the prize.........

Next year, perhaps we'll run in just from Test Day to just before first qualifying...... (or just leave it to Jeremy )

Unfortuately the apparent withdrawal of the #30 Racing Box Lucchini leaves 12 members without a selection in the first withdrawal category. (Withdrawing prior to the start doesn't count as we're looking for the first retirement in the race proper). |Although I did say that withdrawl after 9th June but before the race was bad luck, as there are so many of you, we will allow you to replace your retirement selection, please PM me with your new choice.

4 of the 12 members who chose the Lucchini as the first retirement have now jumped ship as invited. The other 8 have until midday tomorrow to do likewise. Anything not changed by then will remain set in stone.......

As first qually has now started, the competition is now finally and absolutely closed. I'm afraid the 5 members who still have the Lucchini predicted as the first retirement will just have to live with the overwhelming obviousness of their selection........

I came back from Le Mans to a very miserable cold, so I'm a little under the weather right now but I have done the calculations for the predictions competition. Those calculations are presently being checked by PascaLM and I should be able to post the full results and the name of the winner over the weekend.

For those who are wondering, the fairly elementary scoring system we employed was as follows:-


Pole - 50 points + 100 points for exactly correct time. -5 points for each tenth out, up or down.

Race results - 1st - 150 points, 2nd -100 points, 3rd 50 points

Laps - 25 points for correct estimate, 1 point off for each lap out, up or down

1st retirement - who cares - no-one got it anyway!


So well done to cptkablamo, whose fractionally better guess on the laps completed won him the competition. I'll think of a prize in due course.....
And the moral of the story Mr. Jones is - enter in good time next year..........

It's all just a bit of fun in which my fellow moderators indulge me.... But I certainly envisage making some changes for next year. I suspect that we won't open the competition until the Test Day is finished, that way many of us won't be caught with our pants down as we were with the Peugeot speed this year..... Still, they'll be 10+ seconds slower anyway by then.....

man I wouldve finished 4th if I hadn't bought in to that Dome hype. lol but 10th is very satisfying. Anyways, about the 1st retirement, I don't think anyone would have guessed the 83 Ferrari going out in the 1st hour, even with Tracy Krohn at the wheel.
