F3 Dallara 396 - advise required

Hello everybody.
I am the proud owner of a 396 , which hasn't been used for the last 7 years (!) .
Now that I have managed to drag myself off from the couch, and psyched-up to get back to the tracks, I am geting cold feet just by the sheer look of her, lonely and dusty in a dark corner of my garage. The car has no damage, but really, i dont know where to start from working on her. Besides the engine, which will go to a speciallist for a rebuild, I am desperate for any sort of advise on the rest, at least on major things that have to be looked at..
Is there any standard procedure , or any literature available ?
Do some items, like fueltank , belts, or fire-extinguisher have to be replaced ?
I have a couple of mechanics ready to go, but I am afraid I will have to give the orders.. Also, I will need to slowly stock-up on some spares; anyone knows where I can get those without having to ring up Dallara in Italy ? ..any of you guys still have some somewhere in your garage ?
Really gratefull on any kind of assistance offered.

I suggest you ask someone the Monoposto guys - some of them are bound to have run a 396

Hi Poleman. I'm the Monoposto Club Administrator. Send me an email on admin@monoposto.co.uk and (as Andy says above) I can put you in touch with Monoposto racers with similar cars who may be able to offer advice

There are Dallara manuals available, although not sure if I have one for the 95/6. There is one for the previous and subsequent models, and I doubt much changed that's important at our level - http://nordicf3masters.eu/lang/en/fo...itors-2/manual

Seat belts will need replacing for racing, but for testing you may be okay if the belts are clean and tidy.
Fire extinguisher needs to have pressure to be legal in the UK. Getting it serviced/refilled/rearmed may be difficult if the bottle is more than 10 years old or thereabouts.

Spares are findable, depending on whether you are rich or not. Dermot Healy has a few bits and bobs for these cars most of the time. There are people around that can make suspension, suppliers that can get wings... Depends what you want/need.

These cars are pretty solid really, so you shouldn't need to replace too much unless it's been poorly cared for or damaged. Just a case of going through it methodically, making sure the wheels won't fall off, the brakes work (and release), and that the engine/wiring/coolant/oil is behaving itself...

Depends on lots of stuff

Is it a complete car ?
If so what engine ?

There was a complete mugen 1995 or 1996 car for sale
For £12k

I'd say one of the problems with some of the older
Dallara is the small cockpit size

the car is a F396 , complete no missing parts, with a good paintjob a couple of years back. there is also STACK data logging.
Engine is Mugen I( think 1998-9 model), but no miles left in it, so needs rebuilt . I see most of the ads both in UK and abroad , including the Dallara site , ask for 16 - 23,000 euro , which is 13 - 19k pounds. what's your take on this ?

So it will need a £4k-8k rebuild on the engine
Before it turns a wheel

Battey £150
Seat belts £150
Extinguisher £50-£300 depending if you need new
Or a recharge
Master cylinder seals £40
Caliper seals £100
Brake pads £300
Fuel pumps £200

Service the wheel bearings and driveshafts

New set of boots and away you go!!

You can buy a race winning 01 car from a top f3 cup team for £18k

I have some used Dunlops. Bit too hard for British temperatures, and not eligible for F3 Cup anyway.

Hi everyone,
We are owners of a f396 dallara and we are after some spare parts .
I know this is an old thread but would appreciate any help possible .

We are after brake pads , and our starter is slipping a bit .
The problem is the cogwheel . any chance to find a replacement?

The brake pads model is FERODO FRP308C.
Will try to upload an image of the starter .
The engine is an Alfa Romeo .

Regards,
DT

hello DT . I would think your best bet is to ask brake pad makers (like Ferrodo)..
we have some parts for the F395 396 , so if you wish send me a detailed list, with pics if possible.

FRP 308C is a common pad used on Mitsubishi Evo IX & X. Just plug it into eBay and there are plenty.
