World Rallycross R4 - Lydden, UK

It has already been mentioned in the main World Rallycross thread but, as I'm sure there will be enough conversation to justify it, I thought I would start a separate thread for the Lydden round.

Supercar entry list is here:

Super 1600 entry list is here:

Dan Rooke getting a run in the Lites will be interesting, he's very much 'in' at the moment isn't he? He's now Liams spotter in the WRX championship, he's popping up in the lites and he's in an LDM DS3 in the British championship - not bad considering last year he was struggling for budget to run the AX.

Are those the final lists or is there still room to add more drivers? The Lites are a bit thin on the ground.

I don't thinkbthat additional drivers have been added very often (if at all) in recent times, so fear they are final lists. Would love to be proved wrong and see at least Procter, Duborg, Ollie and Coney added. Can't see it happening though. Shame no Andy Jordan.

Lites are thin on the ground but would rather two heats of 5 than one 5 and two 3car heats

Not enough cars to part with 25 quid I am afraid compared to the prices elsewhere for decent events.

Too little SuperCars due to the absence of ERX to justify a trip from Rotterdam to Wootton...

I have tickets for the Sunday. Will be bringing a friend who has never seen rallycross before. I'm pretty excited.

We're in Belgium now and I can tell you the WRX SuperCars are not enough to satisfy a genuine Rallycross fan. 3 heats and it is all over!! Luckily for Belgium we had another 5 heats with ERX drivers...

Does anyone know if I can buy grandstand access on the day? Depending how my back is, I might not be able to walk around all the day and I'd like the option to be able to sit and watch.

Article now up concerning the Retro Rallycross element of the Lydden round:

http://www.retrorallycross.com/group...o-lydden-hill/

Looks like the following Group B cars will be present:

Bi-turbo Metro 6R4 (ex-Gollop)
Bi-turbo Metro 6R4 (ex-Wiklund car, to be driven by Ian Rowlance)
Metro 6R4 (ex-Gollop car, now owned by Adam Keeler)
Audi Quattro
Metro 6R4 (Rob Gibson)
Metro 6R4 (ex-Lawrence Gibson car, now owned by Mark Flaherty)
Ford RS200 (Pat Doran)

I thought the ex-Gollop bi-turbo 6R4 was locked away? Good to see that out if that's the case. Reading the article implies that Ian Rowlance will also be bringing a 6R4? And the Gary Baker RS200 is a possibility as well.

I would be highly doubtful if the ex Will car was coming out to play. The last I heard the widow of Ken Sim had it under lock and key and was very keen to keep it that way as it was her late husbands pride and joy.

The Rasmushaugen/Wiklund car I have no idea. 6R4net used to sponsor a turbo 6R$ that did time attack races on circuits but it was not Metro powered, it used ford engine I think.

If Rowlance has the car it would be cool to see it, I cant remember seeing anything of it after the GpB era finished.

Lol that will never happen unless Terje still has one, I think it was sold on.

The Rowlance car is the old Wiklund shell, but in Time Attack was powered by a Ford engine, Speedhunters did a feature on it a few years ago. Might have gone back to V64V Bi power since I don't know.

Quattro I have no idea unless Olle is coming back over. But if he was I expect a song and dance would be made!!

Seems the Gollop BiTurb might be in the offing, the retro team might have pulled a blinder with that one, though as I say last I heard it was not for moving!!

It would really surprise me if Alexander Wurz is going to race the car in proper Retro-Rallycross. At Melk he (in a Toyota) and his dad (in the Stratos) did just a show, knowing they could trust each other 100%. However, I understood from Austria that Alex has an invitation to demonstrate the Stratos at Goodwood later this year.

Just for the benefit of the forum cynics, some shots of the ex-Gollop 6R4 in daylight on the 6R4.net Twitter page:

Had a decent day today. Decided to go mid week when I saw the weather was going to be fine and a few cars I was not expecting were announced.

A few slight issues. There seemed not many programs about early on, which is rather startling. The grass around the bottom edge of the track was about a foot high to wade through which again is a rather silly oversight. And some areas of the paddock were not accessible to make way for media garbage and trucks which was a shame.

Driving standard was better than expected, the commitment of the top guys is now incredible on a fast track like this, you don't see it to the same level on the tight nadgery IMG tracks which is why I hope in time they go away from the car park nonsense and try and get some sweepers, fast chicanes as they make these cars look amazing.

Disappointed with Loeb, never saw him once despite wandering round the pits plenty of times or Hansen. Fair play to Tanner as you would expect he was out there chatting to anyone and everyone. Ekstrom was about a lot as was Larsson.

Thought Timurzyanov drove real well, pulled off one of the only passes! Then had some bad luck with a collision. Block looks way out of his depth here, nowhere near Bakkerud. And Petter has the measure of everyone, even Ekky making mistakes. The SEAT's were quietly impressive. Doran's Mini looked to have found a bit more pace with the new engine but looks wrong as a RX car.

Made some new friends with some lovely folk from Norway who were there cheering on their son in Lites. Found out Dad was an old Volvo fan from the 80's so he and I were in our element talking about old times.

Finally was great to see the older cars, the sound of the Gollop car was very memory inducing. And Pat again was really struggling to get the RS200 running, though it sounds beautiful when it chimes in for that few split seconds, just like it did in 91!! Shame the cars are not running well and some of them are driven to about 2/10ths of their speed but I guess you have to expect that. Think surely we can move away from these staged races now after 4 bloody years surely.

No need for drift cars and Terry cocking Grant, but fair fillers I suppose and also no need whatsoever for the dit dit music going on all sodding day from that cretinous stage thing, we aren't all bloody 17.

Maybe he's not fast learner and needs time to get used to the car?
I mean in the past he did some impressive runs.
But have to admit I rate him lower than Foust.
