Don't go interrupting this thread with common sense now.

It's a shame they can't squeeze an extra race in somewhere else to make up for the loss of a race and a bit today.

common sense is missing for the FIA and their stupid technical rules, so now we can expect every wet race to be cancelled because of their unsafe cars

yeah it's much too complicated for FIA to do a one off like the BTCC and just do 3 races in one weekend

The cars are lighter, but don't they have more downforce too? It did look like appalling conditions though, and as you may have seen from recent F1 races, they don't race in what would be considered monsoon conditions any more.

Now you're just trolling... If you really believe that you really don't have a clue how racing works.

I have had the pleasure of marshalling an FIA meeting (quite a big one, as it goes) at which a session was stopped because of the rain. Not only had two cars passed me going sideways (in one case inches from a concrete wall) but several flag points had called in that they could not see the previous or next flag point because of the rain and spray.

I've also flagged at BTCC and club meetings where there have been delays due to rain.

It's not all as simple as "one series would" or "one series wouldn't", and it isn't always down to the design of the cars either.

There are wet races and then there are races where a boat it more suitable.

The issues at the Slovakia ring were nothing to do with the cars. The volume of water dropping from the sky far exceeded what the drainage at the track could deal with. So blame the track, not the cars.

And to further add to this. Based on the info in last nights Inside WTCC (or CARS as they call it now) it was actually the Drivers pushing for the FIA to Red flag the 1st race and cancel the second..... not the FIA

I feel I have to step in here. I was at both of those races - Croft 2013 and Slovakiaring 2014. It was far wetter at the Slovakiaring.

The reason? Croft 2013 was a downpour for race three. The WTCC at the Slovakiaring was persistent rain throughout the afternoon. The drainage at the circuit couldn't cope. Even the carparks were saturated. This was my route back to the car, and even Alessandro Dragosei tweeted a photo showing the problems.

Absolutely the organisers did the right thing cancelling the race. Please stop making incessant BTCC comparisons and FIA criticisms.

Can we first ignore the BTCC and WTCC, us versus them situation. You may have a series you prefer, you cannot just mindlessly slag off the other one for no particular reason.

The WTCC at Slovakia in race one produced some hairy moments and there is no doubt in my mind that race two was rightfully never started. So far this year the racing has been really rather good, Marrakech had some good moments too. It is a Citroen benifit no doubt but lots of inter-team competition. I think Lopez will do it but down to the wire it will go.

The main issue was Eurosport scheduling the races so late in the day so when the rain hit they had no time left to wait it out and see what the rain did.

If you watched the (much superior) ETCC races on the Tuesday after the race weekend, you'd have seen 2 quality touring car races only mildly affected by a bit of rain.

I think Eurosport treat the WTCC as schedule filler and as they own it they're happy to run the races at wacky times when their more important sports aren't live.
So you get ridiculous situations where either race 1 and 2 are so close together no damage from race 1 can be repaired in time for race 2, or like on Sunday races running so late in the day that if there's a downpour, they're screwed.

I seriously hope the fans at the track were offered three quarters of their money back due to the amount of "racing" they go to see in the end!

IF there is no team orders like the ones in Budapest, nothing can stop Lopez from hunting Muller down.
