Pity John Paul Jr & Sr didn't take heed of this!

The boys at Tyresmoke seem a little less concerned at observing the little legal niceties likening Vic to Pablo Escobar, a nutcase with a penchant for knocking off judges who harbour a distaste of drugs....

For my part I'm in favour of putting the kangaroo scaffolding away for the moment & let the facts speak for themselves as they emerge...

Autosports credibility though is sound & gives some cause for disquiet....

Well, if you look back in the history books to a decade ago you will find a very similar story. After incident number 1, I am amazed that blue-chip companies like Peugeot and Halfords chose to fund his business.

Listen guys, if those two have been dealing in "Charlie", then they deserve a very long stretch. I was foreman of the jury on the country's biggest drugs trial(Brain Brendan Wright's gang). I did 18 months jury service. It messed up my job(amongst other things), but it was a pleasure to see the gang of 6 get 200 years porridge between them. It also showed what a scumbag industry the Horse Racing industry is. They laundered drugs money through betting. The case was that big, Panorama did a programme on it. You should have seen some of the famous names from horse racing that appeared in the witness box!! As far as i am concerned, anyone who earns money from dealing with that filth should be given life. I work in some of the Inner City estates, and have seen drug dens etc. It is not a pretty sight!

I've read that SoperSport won't be competing in British Formula BMW this year. With Vic Lee jointly running the team with Steve Soper, is there any link between the 2 stories or is it just coincidence?

VLR ran the cars for SoperSport - so it is linked, as VLR is no longer in operation.

According to reports, Steve will still advise the drivers SoperSport had signed, which include Ross Curnow who will now be run by Promatecme.

Correct, that much has been confirmed by Promatecme and Autosport. Ed Hoy is also being looked after by Steve, but is still on the lookout for a FBMW team to join up with.

As I understood it from the Coventry press, Vic Lee has been jailed for 20years for this as a second offence so I'm not sure we're speculating on something outside of the public domain...
He's been jailed for this once, he's alledgedly been very dubious in his business dealings and it looks like he's been jailed again.
If it walks like a duck, looks like a duck and quacks like a duck....

Our industry has a poor record on this, I hope Halfords (who alledgedly were a sponsor "borrowed" from a poor unsuspecting driver who introduced them to VLR as his) are suitably embarrassed.

I'm more surprised by Jerry Mahoney's involvement, he's always struck me as a good guy and the paddock club business always looked very successful (that's his isn't it?)

A sad day for motorsport, let's hope our paddocks are a little cleaner after this.

you must have read the paper wrongly. It hasn't gone to trial yet and he hasnt been sentenced yet. He is in jail waiting for the trial which is expected will happen in the next 6-8 weeks.

Appreciate that's what Autosport says... but I have heard different rumours, not sure Autosport is the gospel here...
His premises have been taken over by Cirtek apparently so I guess they aren't expecting him to be out soon.

nothing to do with rumours . its fact. he was arrested last Monday. it hasnt gone to trial yet (takes a lot longer than 10 days!).

but when he does he will surely get a hefty sentence as its his second offence.

RUMOURS being the key word here. Suggest you read this thread - http://tentenths.com/forum/showthread.php?t=66232 Can we keep to the facts.

I doubt Vic would have been convicted already, when have you ever seen a case like this go to trial so quickly.

Assuming he is guilty, of course!

The facts are: Vic Lee was previously jailed for a drug smuggling offence and has now been arrested in connection with possession of a significant amount of cocain. However, he has not yet been found guilty of this new offence and could actually be innocent - under British Law the accused is ALWAYS presumed innocent untill proven guilty; it is the Napoleonic Code as practiced in France that works the other way round - assumed guilty until proven innocent.

This should not be taken as an indication that I have any sympathy for drug dealing but rather a stament of the facts as they stand today.

Possessing that amount of drugs will always result in a jail sentance, even without having such a huge amount of (dubious) cash in possession as well, and it not being a first offence. Assuming it's not all a set-up (which I doubt), he surely belongs in jail. It's a shame that so many decent people have been dragged into this - the planned BTCC and WTCC programmes are in real danger, Steve Soper has lost out big time, Brilliance's people as well.

Any reports of other people arrested in just a rumour, therefore not suitable for discussion.
Certainly not speculation as to who (of anyone else) was arrested.

It's a rumour that is being reported in Autosport. John Wheatley of Basildon and Nicolas Atkins of Ilford were also named by a HMCE spokesman.

These Essex types...

Again...its not a rumour. Autosport printed a matter of fact and those names were relesed by Customs & Excise and printed in Autosport.

Why are people getting hung-up on the "rumour" thing? There is no rumour involved here, just facts.

Autosport quoted the information given to them by a spokesman for Customs & Excise !

And why are some people here being so over-protective of the guy. Hes a convicted big-time drug dealer who was caught red-handed doing it again with 20kgs in his possession!

Wake up everyone.

Quote from the Autosport Article

"According to a spokesman from HM Customs and Excise, Lee along with 3 others - John Wheatley of Basildon, Nicolas Atkins of Ilford and Jeremy Mahony of Hook in Hampshire - appeared at Thames Magistrates Court last week following their arrest in High Wycombe on Monday February 21. "They have been charged with harbouring 20 Kilos of Cocaine and are now on remane," said the spokeman"

How can this be classed as rumour. You cant appear in court on the basis of a rumour. we are discussing facts and therefore should be allowed by the moderators to discuss the case as it will have/does have a bearing on motorsport.

Obviously the Moderators dont want to be liable for prosecution or any thing like that but with the facts that we have surely the picture is much clearer than previously and we should be allowed to discuss the topic.
