Can I fit a fuel cel or tank in the cockpit of race car?
I have a hatch back Camaro and need extra fuel capacity. What are the rules for fitting tanks or cells in a hatchback?

I haven't looked it up in the BB, but my understanding is that it's OK as long as it's inside some form of secondary sealed metal containment. Arguably it's safer if within the volume enclosed by the cage rather than down the back where it's exposed to a shunt.

The best thing to do would be read the Blue book so you get the definitive answer.

Look at pages 160 and 167 in 2012 BB, basically metal rear bulkhead / cover between fuel and driver. Hope this helps

OK thats cool so if I place it in the spare wheel well in the hatchback and cover that with a decent guage alloy panel I should be good to go?

Make sure you check what sort of pipes you use if they run inside the car, I don't think you can use uncovered rubber and I also think they need to have mechanical fittings, not just jubilee clips, I do stand to be corrected though.

My fuel cell is in the back of my car in an ali box as per this link -
http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/Produc...FWLHtAodwG8ATg The pipes are all 'aeroquip' type and so can run inside the cockpit. I don't run them in the car for very long. |

So the top plate and filler don't need to be covered, I find that odd. And stranger still how on earth do they arrive at £256 plus vat for what is just an alloy box????
