Welcome to the forum Tom.
it is difficult to give a definite answer to your question even if you have a FIA Mustang set up like yours. You'll get less than 10mpg and Spa is 4.4 miles long. A good starting point is looking at what you get elsewhere. What mileage do you get at other circuits? Does it change much by circuit. Spa will be relatively high for fuel consumption, but I found my consumption didn't change that much circuit to circuit. What do you normally get? |

I would figure on about 1.25 litres a minute.

The German guy next to me in NKHTGT at The Summer Classic with a 289 notchback was fuelling 5L per lap. IIRC he was running 3.08s

One litre a minute for a typical 289.

I used to think my Camaros did a litre a minute but it used more than that at Mallory the other week although I wasnt in top much thats why I revised it to 1.25 a minute as I started running out of fuel and fortunately had 3 litres in the reserve tank so managed to limp home. They do have full house 5.7's breathing through a 750 Holley in them though so a 289 to FIA spec probably running a 650 CFM or lower carb should be more frugal. I also have a 3.75 final drive. Yeah I would say 1 litre a minute is realistic with a bit more to be safe. BTW Clff Ryan gets a litre a minute at Spa in his XJS 5.3 Litre V12.

And a litre a minute in my Mustang, same as Jon & Moose, which by my reckoning makes about 3 litres a lap

In jest but surely that's a valid point, if Moose is doing a 2.75 lap and Cliff a 3 minute lap how can they both do a litre a minute?

Surely, the faster you go, the better the chance you have of getting back to the pits before you run out of petrol?

It depends on how many times per minute that the throttle is pumped, at WOT for long periods an engine normally uses less fuel. We have just started running AS's DBS V8 and was using 1.25 ltrs or slightly more per minute at Silverstone National at the BDC which we underestimated & it ran out of fuel in the 1st race - duh! |
