My Tracks Raceway 5
This latest surge in activity caught me off guard; I would have posted this a little sooner.
For those of us who have been here for a while, you know the drill. We do this every 2,500 posts. For the relative newcomers, here is a basic description. For the actual procedure, one person will post a base track to start with. The person isn't chosen by any real formal process. Someone asks, or is asked, to provide that base track. Then, the rest of us make suggestions, and perhaps post our own versions of the circuit. Once the track layout is settled, a theme for corners names is chosen, and then the name of the circuit is decided on. Finally, one person, who has good graphical abilities, puts together and posts a final version. I will note that usually it's easier if one person kind of takes charges of updating the official version of the track throughout the process. In addition, these tracks are posted every 2500 posts (posted at 2,500; 5,000; 7,500; and 10,000 so far). This means #5 would be posted on the 12,500th post. In closing, I would ask that we slow down activity on the other threads in this forum to make sure we don't overshoot the mark. |

Right, we need a base layout.

When you say a 'base track', what sort of level of detail do you mean? Does the first person draw a complete track but very simple layout (4-6 corners, say) and the rest of us add more complexity as we go along? Or is it more like "Ok, here's the start-finish straight, and turns 1 and 2, next person do turns 3 and 4". Or should the first step be a map of the site where the circuit is going to be built and the features that the circuit will have to avoid or negotiate... "there's a lake here, and woods here and this bit has quite a steep slope..."?

No, just any old layout to get started with. Things can then be altered, added or removed as the thing develops.

Just post any track.
If it really is so bad nothing can be done with it then so be it, but I hardly think that will be the case. It will probably end up looking nothing like what you post now, but it's a start. |

Already I think that It's a nice track, so mabey we shouldn't use it. But it could be a challenge.

Nah, I think it should be entirely original. Anyone gonna try making the base layout then? I've done my bit in the past, time for someone else to. Rich? Nicky?

Well, it's a start. If Nicky has a go too then you can incorporate elements of both into the design.

I agree on waiting and seeing what Nicky cooks up, and then selecting between Nickys and Rockmunkys.

Fair enough. I don't think it's that fantastic either. Too many long corners, not enough overtaking opportunities etc. I just thought it suited the competition because it's different

Remember, this is a process. It's not going to be "perfect" right out of the starting gate. It make take several iterations, and I think Jab's original proposal is pretty good, and has a number of potential overtaking zones, though they aren't maybe as obvious as a lot of what we see on newer circuits.

I don't think we should go with a crossover.
