First time for many years. Enjoyed being able to look at so many different motorsport disciplines together. The drag cars, stock cars and grass trackers in their own way were amazing. I felt a bit short changed on the historic racing front (got Race Retro for that!), but there was a fantastic collection of older rally cars on MSNews stand (I think) and also current historic rally cars on the Roger Albert Clark Rally stand. The fact that some of the firms I wanted to visit had gone home after thurs and fri grated- maybe they don't want my business! And after having a good look at a Lotus 2-eleven I want one.

The HSCC display of F5000s was impressive, and of course a warm welcome from Alan & Alan!

I find the NEC hall layout and numbering very confusing, but that ain't Autosport's fault. Yes, £8 for car park is OTT, but you could save £5 on entrance ticket by registering on line beforehand and printing own e-ticket. I would willingly go by train if the journey wasn't over 5hrs from Norwich and darn expensive. 3hrs door to door by car on a Saturday. And the chance to get Med & ECG done while there made it- for me- a good day out.

I went up on Friday, but have refrained from commenting earlier as my day was soured by terrible journeys in both directions which left me really grumpy. However, I thought the show itself was pretty good although expensive. I have no previous experience to go on, but unlike Midgetman, I thought it was pretty busy for a trade day, especially from lunchtime onwards; I'd not have enjoyed it yesterday; must have been a scrum. I'm told that the public attendance yesterday was very high, so all you old cynics who think that it has to change to be successful, might have a long wait!

Met a lot of old friends/Ten Tenthers, which was good!

Anyway, a few pics:-

1) They tend not to drape young ladies over historic cars but I knew that you would complain if I didn't include one pic with legs!
2) Rally Escort
3) Iconic Livery
4) 250F
5) Another iconic livery (to me, anyway!)
6) Busy HSCC stand.

I'll put another lot up soon!

And a few more:-

1) The HSCC stand again - the Leda LT25 - I understand that its last race was in period but it will hopefuly now been seen on the tracks again. No prizes, but can you name all 5 gentlemen standing around the car?
2) Burns/Reid Impreza
3) Rally Lancia Beta Monte Carlo
4) I knew you'd want to see Jason Plato being interviewed by Henry Hope Frost
5) Chevron B37 on the HSCC stand
6) Lotus frames Lotus.

I'll maybe do one more lot!

Indeed, Iain! Bet you can't, Tim!

Last lot:-

1) Very early Lotus
2) Rob Walker entered, Stirling Moss driven, TT winning 250SWB
3) 944
4) Another of my favourite liveries
5) Rally Opel (I think, or is it a Peugeot - not good on rally cars!)
6) Alfa 'promoting women in motorsport'; quite right, too!

Opel Ascona 400 John. Good to see one rallying again- makes a change from all those Escorts

Have to agree about the Jagermeister livery, especially on a Zakspeed Gp5 Capri!

Show was almost gridlock in places sat afternoon (usually where the babes were posing), so can believe it was busy!

It might be worth pointing out that bona fide car clubs get their stand space FREE at the Classic car Show at the NEC in November each year, presumably because its the "cars that are the stars". I assume that the event is paid for by the trade stands and by the punters through the door. Note IIRC the tickets for the Classic car Show are a little more expensive at £35 (and no live ation arena!).

Perhaps Haymarket should do something similar in order to attract more of the racing and car clubs to represent their series and therefore have more cars actually on display.

I think its been overpriced for years especially since they incorporated the Live Action Show (which I'm not interested in) into the standard ticket price. However, I treat it as a day out to socialise in the off season so grin & bear the cost.
You paid to get in? I'd have thought with all your connections a 'freebie' was not beyond the bounds of possibility.

Ah, I was in Thursday not Friday. I arrived just about lunchtime and was served pretty quickly at the bar which is always my indicator of how busy it is The trade stands were happy with the sales on Day 1, so hopefully it bodes well for the season.

I'm a bit biased, I prefer to see cars running than on static display and I get bored easily. My personal highlight was the Jagermeister 935 tucked away on Porsche club stand.

Yeah I had a rubbish trip on public transport too. Tried to do my green bit, but it takes 50% more time than the car

Read my post again P261, you will see that the section in Italics is what Skentellytubby said.

I went today.................thought it was ok, not the greatest but not the worst either (I've been to every one over the last 20yrs). Very busy by midday but everyone was saying yesterday was even more so.

Biggest gripe has to be the NEC catering, not so much the food but the fact that the numerous cafes simply cannot cope with the number of people using them, long queues and then nowhere to sit. Wouldn't be too much of an issue if I was on me tod but not good with the missus............she got p****d off with that and then fidgety thereafter..............we'd probably have stayed longer and spent money otherwise. Having been to events in other countries with as many or more people in attendance we know it is possible to provide a decent service.

£29 a ticket (yes I know its possible to book in advance for a discount etc) is too much and then the rip off parking charge is typical UK take the P!!!

just got back...

enjoyed it, but since I am a member of BRSCC tkts are free.

Agree about the food however. Had to queue for an age for 2 manky sarnies and a bottle of coke, all for the princely price of £12.

Not Autosport fault, NEC has always ripped people off.

motoways, exhebition centres, etc, anywhere with a closed audience in the uk is a franchise . . . not necessarily good value, or quality.

Paris, Frankfurt, Hanover etc all operate the same, I'm sure.

Why do you think we feed & water ourselves (very well for half the price) at race meetings?

parking at the NEC adds insult to injury . . . like a hidden speed camera !

Excuse my ignorance but unless you are a prepper wanting to see the suppliers I can think of no reason for going! At least the Historic thing at Stoneliegh has the rally section and visual displays but unless Autosport one has changed it was like a real life Maxpower but with rougher birds

MSN rally feature
HSCC F500 display
Dunlop stand very fan friendly
Bloodhound
60 years of Autosport
F1 racing display
Autosport stage (driver interviews etc)

all of which (for a spectator) very entertaining.
