Mandated Minimum Tyre Pressures Are Go!
Story Here
17psi is the magic number.. that can be tested prior to any session by the V8SC technical bods.. at their discretion. Should reduce tyre deflations at Bathurst... perhaps.. |

gee, how well would a VL Director ride at 17psi? Do the COTF's have Energy Polarizers fitted as part of the control part regimen?
Will we see explosive wheel retaining nuts developed to shed any flat tyre prior to pit entry to avoid a $5,000 fine for entering pit lane with less than the mandated pressure?? Will the category be providing control valve stems? Many, many questions! |

Perhaps the thread title should be amended to include the word minimum?
17psi seems awfully low... I run Dunlop radial slicks on my 900kg Corolla and the man from Dunlop says 32psi is the ideal "hot" pressure, so we start at 26 - 28, depending on conditions etc. |

Some were apparently getting real low on the soft tyre as they found it made the tyre last longer. Low teens I would say. (I did here single digits on some but not sure about that low)

That's really interesting, 17 psi seems awfully low, I never would have thought that.

It can be done but managing the tyre when it's not up to pressure is a tricky business.

This was a big issue at Bathurst last year for the Dunlop boys. The teams ran tyres at a low pressure and then complained to the Dunlop team that there are "issues" with the tyres. |

So going by that story you can be 15 1/2 psi and still be "safe".

The original article stated:
"In line with the process of weighing vehicles the V8 Supercars technical department has the ability to check tyre pressures without notice. These checks may occur prior to practice, qualifying and races..." The follow-up included: "Tyres will not be checked earlier than 30 minutes before the first V8 Supercars session of the day." I don't think V8SC is going to waste anyone's time, checking hot temps after a session? (of course there is nothing stopping them keeping a car(s) in 'Parc Ferme' until the tyres cool down... before they check) |

Yeah, it's the starting pressure they're worried about so it'll be prior to going out.
