I can see Bottas challenging for the title this season, he's certainly done alright so far

Well, Nico showed that Lewis could be beaten - and even Jenson did it(over a season in terms of points) - so, it is possible. I think however, it'll be interesting for Bottas this season. Lewis can be a tough team mate.

Be interesting to see Mercedes handle these two - if they start bumping into one another.

One to watch for 2017.

So what happens after four races if he doesn't prove himself? Lol.

i suspect 4 races is also the time frame Alonso is giving Mclaren-Honda to sort itself out.

Lauda said that Bottas is a couple tenths off Hamilton over the qualifying pace. But who knows if that's the truth. Lauda said Mercedes were behind Ferrari too.

I'm not going to comment on the Hammy hate, but hopefully they have a good chance to race eachother. I don't care about the off track lifestyles or their media spun comments, I just want to see good racing between the two. Especially if the Mercedes is alone up front.

You heard it here first! Race five, Bottas and Alonso switch seats!

No way McLaren will release Alonso before the end of the season. Just isn't going to happen.

sorry, worded that post poorly...i dont think they will release him early either.

rather i was suggesting that may be the time frame Alonso has set to sign a new contract for 2018, hence the '4 race' period Merc are giving Bottas in order to see if he is worth keeping for 2018 vs making a play for Alonso in 2018.

Bottas vs Hamilton is a no contest. Sorry.

Bottas will not be able to keep Hamilton in check. I like Valterri, but he is going to be the next 'best number two driver'. Joining the likes of Rosberg, Webber, Barrichello, Massa, Irvine, etc.

Ah yes, gotta love those number two drivers.

The very same Rosberg that won a title last year.
The very same Massa that took care of a title-winning team mate and was a Timo Glock tyre choice away from a title.

think we need to remember that the difference between a number 1 and very good number 2 driver is miniscule in f1...when the number 2 driver is given a chance to race and not just play the supporting roll.

Rosberg was fast, but no match for Hamilton on his best days...but he was free to race and picked up the points when Hamilton had off days and mechanical faliures....and yes there were some races where rosberg was just that bit better.

I do wonder what schumachers number 2 drivers could have done given the chance...and how good he was compared to them given equal treatment.

I expect Bottas to challenge Hamilton, how much he can match lewis when he has his good days or mentally when the mind games start only time will tell.

Agree on Rosberg, he took advantage of Hamilton's mistakes/misfortunes to get wins

As for Schum'is teammates, I have a feeling Rubens could have done it given the chance, he already proved more than a match on several occasions
