thetool has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
The biggest continual conclusion to be drawn from all the times in sessions of late is that these cars are FAR too easy to drive. All drivers within 102.5% of the pole time. BTCC and Alan Gow try to use this as reason to wax lyrical about the competitiveness of the series; but in reality it just shows how homogenous and uninteresting it has become.

I don't think that conclusion is one that can be drawn easily.
The grid at the moment has less drivers and teams that are competing on a 'gentleman' basis.

True - The front runners are constrained by performance balancing to be not too far ahead, but also the back runners are operating to a higher standard than in previous seasons.

So much for the Subarus being nowhere!

Two drivers who failed to get a single point at Brands in the top five!

Motorbase surprisingly low down - especially Mat Jackson.

Sutton on pole, Plato in 17th. Blimey. HARD looking good, Goff and Austin proving their pace was no fluke at Brands Hatch, meanwhile BMW are further down than they would like...

I think with the rain predicted tomorrow, the BMWs and perhaps the Subaru's too will struggle.

Excellent driving from Sutton. Someone else doesn't have a leg to stand on now.

Agreed Donington has a tricky wet surface which never really agrees with the BMWs, plus it's quite a cold circuit with the wind, so their front tyres are never up to optimum temperature.

Yep, the Subaru's might have a big more luck and stability thanks to their longer wheelbase, however I think both teams will find tomorrow tough.

A big shame... I feel for Sutton and Hill. For Ash it could have been a breakthrough weekend and sort of turnaround.

so much for BMR doing well

JP is again no 1 driver at BMR starting from 16th

I am totally perplexed how Matt Neal in a empty Civic couldn't be really faster than his fully loaded team mate

should be a good fight between Austin, Goff, Moffat and Tingram, all very hungry for a win !!

I think they'll be in the same boat, changeable conditions and cool temperatures might not be ideal for any rwd car.

Bit harsh. I think it says more about the spread of talent through the field than how easy the cars are drive. I attend the BTCC at Croft, Knockhill and Oulton Park and up close the cars look a real handful to me. Especially in fast corners. Thruxton on TV looks wild, with all the cars looking very nervous. Last year and in all previous years of NGTC there have been 'gentleman drivers' constantly a few seconds off the pace at every track on the calendar.

My understanding was that these cars are harder to drive than the previous spec cars involved in the BTCC? From what I've heard, there is quite a narrow operating window with regards to car setup so perhaps that is why the entire field is are now separated by a small chunk of time.
