Alesi not using driver aids.

I was reading Fifth Column in this week's Autosport and from what I can understand Jean Alesi is not using TC or launch control, which make his performances of late seem all the more remarkable. Or does it?

Are the teams and drivers bamboozling themselves by believing this is the way forward, when maybe it isn't?

That’s is myth. Alesi and all the others need all the help they can get and that includes a daily dose of Viagra.

I'm delighted to hear this. But it figures. Alesi's natural style utilises controlled oversteer, four-wheel drift and powersliding. All of these things are negated by "driver aids", and so Jean Alesi's true technique is squandered by the current crop of radio-control cars.

Nice to think that he's swimming against the flow.

Don K has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
But during qualification Alesi's car sounded as if he was using traction control.
And he seemed to be using autoshift during parts of his flying lap ...

Or did he mean he won't be using it while he is off-camera?

In qualifying, I recall Alesi losing the back end a turn 2 - Maybe he isn't using TCS?

Yep you're right, Jean isn't using Traction Control. This is maybe because Jean is one of the only true racing drivers we have left in F1 and don't see the need for all these electronic gizzmo's. We've only got a handfull of what I would call True Racing drivers left in F1 and even the remaining few of those are using driver aids.
I'd like to see manual gear change brought back like CART racers use. Ah CART racing, now thats another story, proper racing, roll on Rockingham.

Alesi was using automated upshift, and downshifted manualy(he only shifted with his left hand), and I can't believe he does'nt use TC(it would cost to much time), although it could just be that the Prost TC system is just so bad.......

CART uses sequential gearboxes, like in super tourers

If you want to hear TC really clearly, listen out for the McLaren. It sounds appalling.

Good for Jean if he's not using all this new-fangled nonsense - he is one of the true racers left and I'm glad he doesn't need TC etc... to show that he's still the best.

Did anybody see Irvine's pass of Panis. Dove down inside of one of the tightest corners on the track and had almost perfect acceleration out of the corner. That was a prime example of how a good traction control system can help you. I've said it before and i'll say it again, if Alesi isn't using the aids then he is certainly retarding the development of the team. If he wants to be one of the true racers left then he should go to CART, if he wants to win in F1 then he should help the TEAM develop the car. Sponsors don't want to just take up space, they want to be seen at the front of the grid or at least progressing forward. But i guess that's why the prime marketing space on the prost car says "PROST"

edited for insulting language ... Alesi is faster without TC if u didnt read the fifth colum in autosport he spent a whole day testing with it and with 1 hour left he turned it off and he went even fast. he is the only true driver left in f1 and i think f1 should get rid of the gear change on the wheel and do it the way CART does it...

Jean Alesi has stated that he will not be using Traction or Launch Control, and I believe he is doing as he said he would. And as he and Alain are good friends as well as employer-employee, I am sure he is doing this witl his boss' blessing.

I don't notice all the Driving Crutches are helping Mika McLaren very much, do you?
