That was a big off for Verstappen.

Looks like Mercedes messed up big time bringing Lewis in for tyres under that caution.

WOW - 17 year old Max has the biggest set of *******.
Hamilton went in the pits because? I am glad, this will be good! This one race makes up for 10 sleepers. |

As with many GPs these days, it's finally come alive within the last 10 laps. |

Well done Mercedes, I'm not a Hamilton fan but what a stupid decision that was.

Congrats to Nico on his hat trick. I wouldn't want to be Martin Brundle doing the podium interview.

I am really strangely angry about this for some reason. Definitely congratulations to Nico and Sebastian as well but I just think this is an empty end to the GP somehow. The guy who should have won (barring any issues) has been robbed of what should have been a well deserved victory.

day to see the interviews. Network has gone to Manchester football. Really happy for Nicco. Could this be a turning point in the season? This race will get a 9 from me. |

Wow, Hamilton is really ****ed ! It's good to see that after years of PR faces in the podium.

Doing some work so have the Sky post race coverage on in the background. Biased may be a way of describing it. They only showed Lewis' comments in the press conference and didn't show Nico or Sebastian's!!
Not going to be getting a SKY subscription when I buy my house later this year!! |

Job vacancy at Merc I think...
Gordon Bennet, balls up or what. Tear the contract up! Off to Ferrari Lewis! |

Can you imagine if the media and public carried on like this towards a driver who made a mistake and ruined the race for their team like they have towards merc? So over the top.

In the last 5 minutes of the Sky coverage they have (finally) picked up on what Lewis said during the post race interview that he wanted to pit for tyres.
That being said the team should have told him why it was not a good idea. |

The stewards are turning F1 into a totally non-contact sport...
Verstappen 5 place grid Drop and 2 licence points (PDF file) Is there no such thing as a racing collision these days, why does someone always have to be blamed? Is it not bad enough that he didn't finish the race? |

Interpreting what Hamilton said, it would seem as though he felt that the tyres he had on would cool down too much during the safety car period, and that he would be better off with a new set of super-softs. He also guessed that the others immediately behind him would do likewise, but in that he was wrong. The team should then have over-ridden him given that there was insufficient time for him to complete the pit-stop and return to the track still in the lead.
It sounds a lot like 6 of one and half a dozen of the other - in hindsight, poor decision making all round! |

What Hamilton said is that he thought he saw the team, on a giant screen, come out in preperation for a pit stop, but the team told him to stay out. He ignored that instruction because he was sure the others would follow him in to the pits. It nows sounds more like that this was a poor decision by him, but he took that decision bcause he didn't think that the old tyres could retain enough heat to hold off the opposition when the Safety Car released them to race again.
