Come on now, you can't be serious??
It was a joke when it was announced, it's a joke now, and it'll remain a joke for years to come because the powers that be have spent way too much dough on it and won't want to lose face by admitting it's a joke. Might as well start racing flower pots too. |

How many rollovers in this series so far? 5? Seems, umm, excessive.
On another note, is there any talk of other cars being built right now? When can we expect a fuller grid? Less than a dozen cars is poo. |

2 runaway wheels this weekend with axles attached.
They are dangerous. There would have been some explaining to do if either of them had collected a member of the public. |

Those things are going to be 'special' coming into the Chase in a few months time.

Wouldn't really consider Jalopnik as a news site.

In hindsight, should have perhaps termed it "news".
But in a relatively small sphere of interest, this ungainly racing is now being exposed to a far wider reach. |

To be honest, I've given the catagory a fair chance.
There's been some great racing, and I love the attitude of the utes when they're on the edge. I like that the teams are really pushing the development of common rail diesel perfomance here in Australia too. However, I think they really need to choose the tracks they run on more carefully. QR is a car killer and is boring on the TV for most catagories. Sandown is a car killer. Bathurst, they're crazy going there. They seem to suit shorter tracks with corners and kerbs. In hindsight, they should have pursued the original concept of dropping the bodies over a common spaceframe, with a common V8 engine. Whilst not to everyone's tastes, it would have been much better-received by the great unwashed on social media, and I dare say the uptake from teams would've been greater too. I'm interested to see what happens beyond this season. |

Any effort to try and hide that (with a silhouette concept) would surely be a big misrepresentation. This series encapsulates the conundrum of where "touring cars" are currently headed (with relevance to the new car market); and given the old adage "racing improves the breed", wouldn't it be better if these vehicles can be made to work using their actual structural underpinnings? |

The way they've done it now, offers a bigger catch pool of different utes, of the high ground clearance variety.

I'd put a tenner on them switching to a V8 engine for next season.

If the road versions of these things roll as easily as the race versions then I have cause to be worried! There seems to be a lot of them around.

I had my first proper watch of their races this year on the weekend from QR and honestly I didn't mind the racing at all.
I thought the cars looked fine on track, the racing wasn't too bad and i'd watch more of it. On a general note i completely agree with Umai Naa about consideration when it comes to tracks classes race on, mainly in this case for the likes of Bathurst where if they've only got 10-12 Utes will make for a pretty boring spectacle on a track that large for the spectators |

Imagine a rollover at the chase? Crowds love that stuff right? Maybe they can roll up and over the walls along the top, they seem to be picking up some really nice altitude on their rolls |

Are these trucks not able to be, in any way, engineered to stay upright?

To quote a Senior Supercars Manager at Townsville, "... if the dog has no legs and no head, stop trying to walk it.....". Maybe he should heed his own advice with the superutes!

They'd be safer, quicker and still retain (enough) model recognition to satisfy the manufacturers (unless they prefer seeing their cars rolling violently on the 6pm news????). |

Not all models homologated, have a proper low 2WD chassis available in dual cab length. Can either heavily modify something, or drop the cab and tub onto something bespoke, to get the desired ride height. |

They could reduce the wheel size a bit as long as the brake package fits and probably get a couple extra inches from suspension. Even 4-6 inches would make a big difference.
The proportions would look silly though which is likely important to the category and what they're trying to achieve. |

As a matter of interest are there many mechanical modifications to the power train or is the extra power predominantly chip programming?
They seem to have kept the black smoke to a reasonable level. |
