Bathurst would be great but I don't think it would ever happen.
The change in gradient around bends like Hell Corner is too severe. The Esses would be very dangerous as well considering the speed differential of an F1 car. To see them blasting down conrod straight would be class though. Bathurst doesn't have the infrastructure to hold a GP either. Bring back Adelaide though, I'm all for that! |

For those who say that Adelaide is the "spiritual home" of the Australian Grand Prix, it is true to say that Adelaide hosted the first Australian Grand Prix that counted for points towards the FIA championships.
However, Phillip Island hosted Australia's first grands prix between 1928 and 1935, while the first Formula One Grand Prix in Australia (though not for points) was held at Albert Park in 1953. Grands Prix, though not all in Formula One, were held at Point Cook, Victoria, in 1948, Sandown between 1964 and 1978, and Calder Park in 1980 to 1984. So, if you're talking the spiritual home of Formula One in Australia, it's either Phillip Island or Albert Park, not Adelaide, IMO. |

In my opinion, Surfer's would be a nice track for F1, but Albert Park is a good track, if not a better one and I don't think that they should change it.

Would anyone class Melbourne as a street circuit?

Surfers in the rain is diabolical. After two wet races in as many years, it was good to have a dry one.

imo adelaide is the best street circuit that formula 1 has raced on(except maybe montjuic), better than longbeach and a world away from monaco. you could actually overtake other cars at a few points around the track, and any self-respecting street circuit should have a 200 mph straight.
also can anyone recall a boring adelaide gp. Last edited by Rich R; 24 Oct 2004 at 12:32. |

what about Cavvy, Caversham W.A 57 & 62. Described in another forum as the low point of AGPs, 57 with Lex Davison, Stan Jones & Jack Brabham sharing the podium, it was my earliest recollection - my hero & Dads mate Fred Coxon in a Holden open wheeler DNFed. Bruce McLaren won 62 - I remember him punting a Mini Cooper in the tin tops on the same day (what about it Mark Webber?) I've been to Adelaide & here in Melbourne - vote Adelaide #1. |

Albert Park would be a lot better if it was anywhere other than Melbourne!!
When you leave the track precinct, its just dull old Melbourne. Adelaide had the whole town as a party, but if taking the GP back to SA meant the end of the Clipsal, then Melbourne can have the GP |

Well, you got my point about some people saying that Adelaide being the spiritual home of Formula One in Australia - I didn't have all my reference books to hand, because I wasn't home at the time of writing the post above!
Anyway, Albert Park is a brilliant venue for the Grand Prix. |

Adelaide is the preferred option for me, but Surfer's Wouldn't be a bad 2nd option. Alberto Park is OK, but the Aussie GP was all about street circuit racing, and although technically Albert Park is a street circuit, Adelaide and/or Surfer's beat it. I like the ideas of having two though!!

Philip Island did not hold the first Australian Grand Prix. Goulburn is the place where the first Australian Grand Prix was held. The history books lie!

The Adelaide races were always special, perhaps the last race of the season has more fun factor than the first race of the season in Melbourne.

What would be interesting is to see some historic (even recent) F1 cars running around Bathurst in either a race of time-trial format. Would be nice to watch, especially some of the older cars with the massive ground effect...
Then maybe get TGF to run around in a tin top (red of course) and see his reaction. "I've never seen a kangaroo before!" |

I can't see why anyone likes albert park! It has one kinda cool curved straight and then...ummmmm.yeah see what i mean? However i must say that victorians are amazing with sports-this comming from a queenslander, the natural enemy of victorians No argument about how good adelaide ran things As for surfers-i was down there two(?) weeks ago struggling big time through the traffic oh how i lothe indecisive drivers in a traffic jam um...what was i talking about? Oh yeah. f1 at Surfers would be kinda cool but the novelty would wear off real fast It's just another stupid street circuit weher nothing can pass |

I'd like the Grand Prix to return to Adelaide but, realising that Adelaide is not considered a money-making epicentre such as Sydney or Melbourne, it was not practical to hold a Grand Prix there. Indeed, the SA Government lost money virtually every year the GP went there, although part of it can be blamed on an incompetent Bannon and Arnold Labor Governments.
As for the Mountain, openwheelers with the notable exception of Formula Ford are not permitted to race, for safety reasons. And that is a NSW Governement rule as well as CAMS, I think. |

I think the Victorian government lose about 13 million each year on the grand prix ?
