totally agree there mike..
keeps out gravel, (the stones and the monkey LOL) keeps your feet dry and your ankles supported for running about over rabbit holes etc.. i wear the Magnum boots and you can get a discount for being in the BMMC http://www.magnumboots.com/UK/ |

Tescos sell Hiking/Climbing Gaiters for £10 which should keep not only your boots but the bottoms of your overalls free of crud.

obviously this doesnt happen to some people much either for the obvious reasons like they walk round GT's or theyre post chiefs but it depends on the quality of the gravel traps, brands has the best croft isnt far off whereas the supposed gp standard that is silverstone is quite pap. i always manage to hop across them i never get bogged down when i walk across them i never feel momuntarily tired.
at croft (local circuit) though when i watched a training day recovery (time constraints) at clervaux just standing there i was sinking!, ive got to say i got a lot of pea gravel in my boots and its very deep. saying that though i work as a labourer sometimes so i get it at work a helluva lot ive never been on paddock hill bend but with all the recoveries ive done if i get one there i think i might be in for a bit of a struggle! |

Cheapest and obviously the best solution in the context of motorsport: gaffer tape round the top of your boots. End of.
Plus it has millions of other uses - sticking the phone handset to your ear whilst writing reports and flagging; holding down the biscuit and sweeties box in the post chief's hut; making sure the pork pie doesn't fall off the armco when someone runs into it. Still trying to work out how to use WD40 from the point of view of a marshal, though! |

i mean i toyed with the idea of wearing my half decent gaiters for the hell of it just in case... but then its just something else to take off at the end of the night, plus its good if i keep them packed in my hiking backpack for some of my crazy routes...
