Danica tied Meira for 17th on the speed chart in the first session this morning.

Simona was 22nd, but only 2/10th of a second back from her...

Let's see what happens in the upcoming session this afternoon...

Reasonable showing by Danica in the final practice there (albeit humped by the mightily inferior Conway, whom, IIRC, was destined as a matter of fact to be beaten all the time by Danica: perhaps that scenario has altered by now, though?).

That inferior Conway getting into the final 12, but not Danica? That doesn't make sense either, does it?

If they want to sell the series for its female racers, they might as well go all the way

This thread was a good read, and I'm sure it'll continue to be.

I've followed Simona since she came into Atlantic, and while she's no superstar, she definitely has a lot of talent and a very smooth driving style that will frustrate many of her competitors. She should also be popular out of the car (and not for the reasons Danica is).

I think she's done a bit better than I would have expected so far; I wasn't sure how organised HVM would be. They may struggle on the ovals, where setup is everything. Still, I think it should be clear within a few races that Simona is a very quick driver who could win many races with the right equipment.

I know this isn't strictly on topic, but when was the last time Danica stuck it on the front row on a road course?

(I'm a newbie here so be nice...for at least 5 seconds!)

I've had a rough browse of Wikipedia (I know) and one wonders whether IndyCar is really the right series? Stats from the last few years show she isn't really a master of road/street circuits but she can definitely do the business on an oval, much more so than she has shown on some of the other tracks... Would something like the Sprint Cup Series with it's 11-1 oval-road track ratio be more suited to her?

I saw Simona in the Atlantic Championship a few times last year and she thoroughly impressed me. I think you're going to see more of that this year.

Yeah, she definitely has the speed. I think she's having a bit of difficulty getting used to the longer races (as might have been the case today), but she'll learn pretty quickly I think.

On pure speed, I don't think there's any contest between Simona and Danica... we'll see about ovals I guess though.
