2016 V8SC Malaysia Street Race Is NOT Go!!!!

The announcement so far is for an event with a car from each of the 5 brands doing a demo round in August (tight time frame between QLD and EC).

Then possibly if it goes well and an agreement can be reached we may go to a 4 year contract for the next 4 years.

A round in Malaysia is probably a good thing, still close to Australia and at an event that will already be happening and a street circuit which typically draw a decent crowd

However 2015 is the first year of this event as an event seperate from the malaysian GP, so they will make a decision after this event if they actually want to try again in 2016, then they will consider the v8s

Also may depend if they can land a GT race for the event also, which they dont appear to have done yet

Its valid for sure, but I get excited seeing the V8s race a new track and in a place I have not visited or been exposed to before

No race track in Australia gets compromised from this additional round of the series in another country. It is in addition to, not in replacement of, the existing V8Supercar calendar of events.

V8SC is a part of a menu of categories participating at this venue, and is one of the headline acts, alongside GT and other local fare.

The V8SC series does not seem to want to go back to the same venue twice in the one year, here or anywhere else in the world, which leads us to finding somewhere a brand new permanent circuit is available in Australia.

And there isnt one.

Then we look at possible street circuits, and then the army of naysayers complain that they are taking away from permanent circuits and eating government money that could be spent on left handed bicycle lanes.

Yet there are no new permanent circuits built, under construction, in plans to be be built, thought about, or drawn with a stick in the dirt, to speak of in Australia.

Does there need to be a visionary to go build these permanent tracks? Yes. Is that V8SC's job? it is hard to make a logical argument that it is as a promoter of events, and the manager of a sporting category, not an infrastructure asset owner/operator.

Not that this is the point, in a thread celebrating a new event on the calendar that seems to have many of the drivers excited at the prospect of showcasing their talents in a new market, on a new track.

If you arent going to go see them at track, instead enjoying them on Foxtel's excellent broadcast, or on #10's delayed highlights package, it shouldnt be that important for an additional race that doesnt cut out an existing track is put on the calendar.

International races should mean more income for the teams. More income from the teams should mean more competitive race cars. More competitive race cars should mean better on-track action.

It does matter. Some people actually care about Australian motorsport and its progression.

You highlight Foxtel's excellent coverage but fail to highlight the declining audiences that have access to the category.

Why is this event going to be anymore sustainable that the previous overseas attempts?

An expensive street race with huge overheads - highlighted by a category that despite a press release - doesnt have an international following.
