still hard to figure out what exactly happened but contact with another car made the car go airborne. Fence did a good job!

Edit - one of the comment contains a pretty good description of what happened:

"We were watching from the Sargento Bridge when he attempted to retake the lead. The left wheels clipped the grass causing the car to twitch and make brief contact with the black & white Ferrari... Suddenly the nose lifted and the car sailed out of view as it went downhill towards turn 5, followed by a cloud of dust and debris. I feared the worst. I've been to a lot of races in my life and never witnessed anything that horrific. Everyone in the vicinity was very lucky."

That is terrifying.
We're all very Blessed that no spectators or the driver were seriously injured.

That interview ends in a very positive note indeed. Seems there is a real chance Maserati will compete in the GTS championship later this year, with an entry that counts in the race/championship - unlike in Road America where the Maseratis were allowed to participate, but their results did not count.

I would argue it was driver error. The driver of the black car made a huge error in moving over on the red car. Very scary stuff.
