Super 70s

For info, the Classic Sports Car Club (CSCC) have decided to introduce a new class within their existing "Future Classics" series for next year (2010). This new class will be known as the "Super 70s" class and will specifically be for all Sports, GTs & Saloon/ hatches below 2 litres that were of a production type introduced berfore the end of 1981. The aim is to encourage more cars from the 1970s and very early 1980s out. It is hoped that the new class will provide opportunities for cars such as Alfa (Bertone) & Alfetta GTV, Alfa Suds, VW Golf GTi, Porsche 924, Lancia Beta Coupe etc etc to race against each other in a 40 minute mini enduro format & to be competitive against cars of similar age group.

1981 has been chosen as an age cut off specifically so that the cars in the new class are also all eligible for the annual CSCC invite to the "Youngtimer" 300Km race at the Nurburgring. All other regs for the "Future Classics" series will remain the same.

Delta, I really look forward to seeing you out in the RS2000. Should be good. The Super 70s class will run within the existing Future Classics series & to the same regs - there aren't many regs, just make sure that you don't get caught out by any desire to have "bubble arches" etc. FC requires that the body shell is to the original production size and shape, although replacement panels can be used. That means no wheel arch extensions!

Al, I understand but the CSCC already has a fair few 70s car competing across its 3 existing series (not including Magnificent 7s for obvious reasons). However, the 70s cars (< 2 litres) have tended to be outclassed by newer machinary in the other series. This class (its a class within an existing series not a new series) will give them the opportunity to race & compete together for a class award. Its a class thats been set up in response to existing competitor demand. Also, I think that there several people who like the CSCC 40 min, one or two driver format but haven't found a series elsewhere that they like that offers the same sort of thing. The CSCC has just tidied up its existing series so that 70s cars < 2 litre can race together. If others want to join in then they will be very welcome.

If someone did it (or a Marina), then I'm sure they'd be welcome. Mad, but welcome!

It would be superbly amusing . . . an 'FiA' 2.1L MGB engine must produce 180 odd BHP . . . . stick all that in a slammed marina . .

If I win lotto I'll do it

Rallying was surely the best use for allegro's, the quickest way to get rid of them. They should have been driven through a forest in the dark, without lights, to speed up the process.
Or perhaps let the late, great, Tony Pond loose in avery one made, perhaps delivering them via forests to the dealers. the PDI would have been interesting.
A mate of mine worked in BL main dealers when these were launched, remember him telling me that they jacked one up on one occasion, not using the actual jack location, the windscreen feel out!! Also, jacking them up under the sump broke the sump. allegedly BL used to send out tubes of Belzona, a composite metal glue, that was there approved repair to avoid fitting new gearbox casings.

LONG LIVE THE ALLEGRO !!?? B**locks

Good old CCC ran a rally Marina for a while, but most of the pictures in my old "yellowing" pages ones are showing it on its side in the undergrowth

My 70's BL Tat is certainly not what dreams are made of but it usually does OK in Future Classics - even with those door handles!

I have fond memories of Autotesting with my Dad and Bognor Regis Motor Club in a Dolomite, it wasn't quick, but it did flick a hell of a lot of dirt up from the rear wheels, which at the age of 10 was great!

thinking back its a miracle we got home in it afterwards (It was his work hack whilst restoring a scimitar, very well abused!)
