Wonder if we'll finally get to see the R8 race in that Red Bull livery that it's often paraded in and Carlos Sainz did various demo runs in.

Niko Nurminen: I'm happy to announce that in 2014 I will do a full season in VLN Endurance Championship as well as Nürburgring 24h race with Aesthetic Racing. I'm going to share driving duties in brand new Porsche 911 (991) with team owner Stein Tveten, who was also part of class winning crew in last year's Nürburgring 24h race. I will get first taste of new machinery on next Saturday during the RCN testday at fabulous Nordschleife.

I think the cause of the Ring's problems was not private management but rather bad management. The solution to that problem is not to return the control of the Ring to government or a nonprofit company, but to install better managers and a new strategy. While HIG has no record of turning around failing race tracks, they do have a record of turning around failing businesses, which is what the Ring is at the moment. HIG will be assisted in this process by a British investor, Meyrick Cox, who knows the Ring extremely well as a competitor, a tourist driver and a part-time resident of the area. I think the involvement of Cox is a good indicator that HIG respect the tradition and importance of the Ring to the locals, to pistonheads everywhere and to the auto world in general. No one knows for sure what is the future of the Ring, but I'm more optimistic about it now than at any time during the past few years of turmoil.

I just read over the 2014 VLN regulations. I noticed that the SP6-8 classes are now for "close to production" engines. Have we seen the last of the RSR's and modified Cup cars in the special classes?

Any ideas why two of the Manthey Porsches were running with the LED car position boards on the windscreen at the test (the same ones used at the Spa 24H)?

I'm looking at the timetable on the website now and there's no classics race. Unless the one marked 'demo laps' by Tourenwagen Revival is it. In which case, is it no longer a race? I have just been able to swing the time to attend the big one this year, fingers crossed..... |
