Even with it's toll, who else would rather turn back the clock?
Danger is intregal with this game...and to go too far in the effort to remove it is to emasculate it. |

May 8, 1982.
Although he didn't race for long, and although even Enzo called him "The Prince of Destruction" for the way he treated the Red Cars, I still believe that there isn't anyone else I'd rather watch on the track. I'm only sorry I never saw Jean Alesi run against him. I'm sure he's forgiven Enzo for the team orders by now, but Scheckter's championship should have been his. Even Scheckter knows it. We'll never see his like again. ============ And as for making the racing 100% safe, I will quote a wise man who said, "When racing is made safe for the stupid, only the stupid will race." |

Thanks for recapping the date Liz
Very true about the team orders that cost him the championship, remembered a tv coverage on a tour at Enzo's office in Moranello. They kept his office as the way it is and there was a photo of Gilles on his desk. I guess Enzo must have felt bad about it. |

It just goes to show that you should not plan on "next year." As Gilles said himself, when his manager asked him to wait until next year to get a helicopter, "What makes you think I'm going to be around next year?"
And the day before he died, he gave an interview in which he said, "If I go off [at Zolder] I'll only have time to cross myself and call for my mother." |

" ...and when they presented me with this tiny Canadian, this miniscule bundle of nerves, I instantly recognized in him the physique of the great Nuvolari and I said to myself, `let's give him a try.'"
-------------------------------------------------------------"He left us because of something incomprehensible. His fatality has deprived us of a great champion, one that I loved very very much. People used to say that one day he'll quit Ferrari but I never believed it because Gilles and I had formed such an affection for each other we were like father and son. My past is scarred with grief ...father, mother, brother, sister, wife ...my life is full of sad memories. I look back and I see my loved ones ...and among my loved ones I see the face of this great man: Gilles Villeneuve." Enzo Ferrai |

Glad I've inspired some great memories to be shared
Gilles Villeneuve. Pictures say 1000 words.... Monaco. Gilles. Ferrari. 1982....Yes! And one of my favourite F1 pics. That name on the side of that car conjures up images of opposite lock, and on the edge driving. We will never see that again To bad I wasn't even alive until four years after his oh-so tragic death. |

Ahhhhhhhhhhh. That is what F1 cars are SUPPOSED to look like.
I have a large model of that car and a small one -- and I'm taking the small one to work today. |

Get a copy of the 1979 Long Beach race. Read the names of the guys who were on the grid and realise that you could recognize nearly every one of them if you saw a picture of him today. Now look down today's grid and imagine trying to explain to your son in 25 years who in the they were.
