After monitoring the triumphs of the EUROINTERNATIONAL Group for the last few years in the Formula BMW-Americas series, it seems a story about their success is overdue...
For anyone interested, you can view it here. The drivers return to action on July 17-18 at Lime Rock Park. |

LIme Rock
James Kovacic - Is the 1st Rookie to win a race this season. He won on the weekend of his 16th Birthday. He is the 2nd youngest in the series. Its his first season in a Race car of any type and is one of the most successful karters Australia has produced being the 2008 National Champion. He has a video of his FBMW test at Putbnam Park posted on his website www.jameskovacic.com Two Aussies in 2 weeks - Webber and Kovacic - Come on Aussie Come On!
p.s James Kovacic also set the 2 fastest laps in both rounds 8 and 9 at Lime Rock and is the first non-Eurointernational driver to win a Round this year, breaking the stranglehold on Eurointernational dominance this year! |

BMW confirms tests for Rossi and Gutierrez http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns21697.html
Despite the announcement that it is quitting Formula 1, the BMW Sauber team is going to honour its commitment to young drivers Alexander Rossi and Esteban Gutierrez. Rossi won the Formula BMW Americas title last year and took victory in the World Final in Mexico, while Guitierrez was champion of Formula BMW Europe. It is believed that BMW may even have had some options on the young drivers or the future, but with the decision this week to quit F1 such deals are now off. The team will however run the pair in a test planned at Jerez between December 1-3. BMW says that at the end of this year the Formula BMW Americas series will come to an end because there have not been enough support as a result of the economic crisis. |

Ouch! Those guys pulling out of F1 was one thing Sauber, but this is hitting us where it hurts.
Watched an Indy car race for the first time in years and didn't even recognize the cars, and only a car like that could spoil an airport circuit, and they're not even racing in Cleveland any more. Cleveland! remember some of those races? AOWS. As somebody's signature line on here says, or used to anyway: help me Jeebus. Edit: Oh yeah, that's what it was; save me Superman! Not sure which of those two would be more likely. Last edited by Last2LiftOff; 31 Jul 2009 at 14:38. |

FBMW Americas
BMW cancelled the Brazilian Round at the beginning of the year. However, they also stated that the round would be replaced with another in the USA. This did not occur. All drivers paid entry fees to race Brazilian round - yet BMW do not give a refund for that round.
Some news re Mosport Round 13 & 14. After the huge accident at Rd 12 in Road America. Kovacic car has been rendered a write off (no fault of his own - just an innocent victim in the carnage - lucky to have got out without any serious injuries) and cannot be repaired. Kovacic has no car and hence not likely to defend his Rookie Lead in the Championship at the last 2 races. Team Apex trying to build another car , however it may be that Kovacic budget cannot be extended that far. Kovacic has tested NASCAR Camping world car today - looks like he may be lost to open wheelers due to lack of support from Australian companies. Its a shame - All the best to him. Thankfully he survived the wreck unscathed. In my opinion - looking at replays - the officials should have started the race under a safety car or delayed the start. The carnage and life threatening situation should have been avoided. Kovacic destroyed his car - as was a innocent passenger after 3 car pile up in front of him at the only wet part of the circuit. Three other cars also very badly damaged and Vilarinho's car was in flames! after Raimondos car pierced a whole in the tub and split open the fuel cell behind Vilarinhos seat! All could have been prevented. Kovacic's lead in rookies was 23 points - now only 2 points. They continued the race under a safety car while trying to remove the cars and fix the catch fence destroyed by Kovacic's car. The cars did not complete more than half the 1st lap before the accident occured. Seems starnge why they did not red flag the race considering there was a fire and a driver was taken into hospital. Pretty weak. Last edited by speedkills; 21 Aug 2009 at 11:35. Reason: Spelling mistakes |

Rookie Championship
Aussie driver James Kovacic was leading the rookie standings going in to rd 13. Using a spare car he qualified in front of his teammates on the 3rd row. Race 1 Joao Horto (Teammate) hit James from behind on start of 2nd lap in turn 1 ending James Race and causing major damage. Effectively ending any chance of a championship win.
