So sad and such a freak accident. I have fond memories of Henry storming through the field in a very wet FRenault race at Silverstone last year. My thoughts and condolences are with the Surtees family (my thoughts also go out to Jack Clark who must be feeling terrible through no fault of his own)

It's always so dreadful when a driver dies. The tragedy compounded by the fact that he was so young. As the parent of a boy just a few years younger, the sense of loss and grief is profound. I remember the steady and quiet manner of his father in the garages at the Glen nearly 40 years ago, and "adopted" Surtees as my favorite team.
How ironic that John raced on two and four wheels, won the big prize on both and survived when so many of his peers did not. To lose his son so young in an era of relative safety is tragic. My condolences to the Surtees family.

I was working in the assemble area at Brands Hatch over the weekend some of our younger marshals had spent time talking to him just before he left to race, he spent time a little time just talking to them. Then we saw the crash on the big screen, disbelief. My condolences to the Surtees family. RIP Henry Surtees

I was the first marshal to get to the car and Henry. I did everything that I could for him. I just wish he was sitting up in bed reading get well messages. My thoughts are with his father John, Mum Jane, and the rest of the Surtees family and friends.
