Spot on. There's not much wrong with the performance of the current cars but the cars don't have to be expensive to look a bit more exciting. I wish they'd although teams more freedom of the body shells they are allowed to use as well.

I feel when the WRC got the look of the cars right was during the 1990's where you had the Corolla, Celica, Escort, Impreza and Lancer all darting around. They got the balance between a normal road car and race car perfected even more so then the supertourers of the BTCC.
I have nothing against the pocket rockets, and as said before, the segment is an important segment for manufactures globally, but I still think they need a bit of when it comes to having a presence. |

i think this is a key point. what market are they trying to sell the cars to? the subaru imprezas inspired a generation of comfortably off and not so comfortably off gentlemen of many ages to buy that car. the kind of guy that has a family to transport around amongst other things. the hot hatches will sell regardless (witness the golf gti and renaultsport clio and megane models) and to be honest is there much point in trying to expand a market with limited financial resources?

The FIA just seem to have this vision of how the sport should be and not be willing to move away from that format or be very blinkered to the reality of whats going on. What I get annoyed with is this constant line of its what the fans want to see in terms of cars and events. I'm yet to meet any who subsribe to this theory. They need to replace the word fans with manufacturers if they were being really honest.

If Chevrolet beats Ford in the Argentine Rally Championship, I'm sure it does affect brand image (not as much as Turismo Carretera, of course). And we don't have hot hatches anymore. |

If you haven't seen 10 years of WRC by Stage One Technology, do it right now. What a movie! I had goose bumps while watching it the first time, and tears in my eyes when I saw it again. So many unforgettable people have passed away, retired, or left the championship in recent years. WRC will never be the same.

Also, a little bit of older news: The FIA and EBU have finalised a production and distribution services agreement for the 2012 FIA WRC season.

An interview with Ken Block. (Why he does the WRC and marketing side.)
Interesting hearing how hard it is for drivers outside of Europe to do testing and to learn things due to the rules. Last edited by I Rosputnik; 21 Jul 2012 at 14:33. |

They moved it to Wales for a start, made people pay to get in and UK rallying has imploded.
Simple really! |

Three-time World Touring Car champion (and ten-time Andros Trophy winner) Yvan Muller will drive Prodrive's second Mini on his home World Rally Championship round in October.
Although, he was only 42th in 2010 driving Xsara WRC, and 31st last year in 207 S2000, surely he has the ability to score some WRC points this time. Last edited by kober; 7 Sep 2012 at 02:52. |

Donuts galore in Spain: "Doing a complete lap before continuing the route, an unprecedented ‘donut’ at full speed that will become a true [highlight] for all rally fans, who will be able to witness the rally cars making a spectacular skid of more than 360 degrees. This special feature is a complete novelty in the WRC and another contribution of the organiser of the Spanish round, eager to provide the championship with elements that will make the event even more interesting for spectators".
They must have liked what Panizzi did in 2002 |

Forgive my cynicism - but it's a gimmick. Something the WRC seems full of. The cars need more power than grip, then they may provide a spectacle - at the moment, they appear to be 'on rails'.

Nope - it's a poorly conceived gimmic. So the cars are doing a complete lap around a roundabout at "full speed" - so what happens if there are two cars in close proximity - round the roundabout and SMACK straight into the other car just joining the roundabout. Brilliant. Why not spice things up by running the cars in opposite directions down the same stage? Ok I admit that it's unlikely that two cars will be that close together - but it can happen.

Good to see. LMP's, GT's, Pikes Peak, Rallying, they all come the same to Romain; bit of an all rounder. |
