ESPN Classic Barry Sheene era stuff

It seems ESPN Classic are doing motorcycling every Saturday for a few weeks now.

Just finished watching this weeks stuff and it was excellent. They showed the 1977 Transatlantic Trophy from Oulton Park won by America (boo!) and the 1984 British GP won by Randy Mamola.

Excellent TV in both cases and boy was Oulton a fast track! Haven't seen footage of the old track for ages and it took me by surprise!

Next week is the 1979 British GP I think, which runs for about 50mins.

Cracking viewing, so make sure you all tune in!

Missed it...does anyone with better motorcycling knowledge with me know which race it was where Sheene overtook another rider and then proceeded to stick two fingers up at him? They've been doing the ads on ESPN Classic for the past week or so and keen to see that...interested to see what happened before and could have brought that reaction!

It was that race I think. Murray Walker did the commentary, it was on the Barry Sheene DVD....Definately Silverstone, a great race.

Iy ws at Silverstone and the other rider was Kenny Roberts, they actually got on OK, but there was some fairly good natured banter between them during the seventies.

I was amazed ah how dangerous the track looked, surrounded by raliway sleepers, but how quick was Steve Baker on that TZ, brilliant

And the GP footage again was very good, with John Surtees helping out Murray on the mike, and that was one of the few tiems anyone over here saw the weird NSR500 race after Freddie Spemcer got injured

Well it was actually a different video this weeeknd, they showed some raoe of the year stuff from Oulton in 79 and then the entire British GP from 1981 the race that Middleburg won on the private Suzuki, and quite brilliant it was too, great racing between Jack, Kenny and Randy, awesome names kept cropping up, and there was Freddie on the original Honda, didnt seee him on screen, but some great stuff.
