Model Race Tracks
I did a project over the summer a couple of years ago, which was building a train table. It was pretty good, and took up a whole room. Now, a brilliant, but frighteningly overwhelming idea consumed me. What about making a 1/43 scale replica of real race tracks to put the 1/43 Le Mans models on?
I figured out to do a full track would take up the size of a large garage, and perhaps a little more. I tried doing a corner (Arnage at Le Mans, incidently) with limited resources. Since it was limited, it didn't look great (more like Bahrain than anything else - I forgot to order trees!), but that spawned my idea. I think a feasible idea would be to, at first, do a short track, like Martinsville Speedway or even Lime Rock Park, and then expand to larger tracks. I taught myself stop-motion filming. I've become pretty decent at it. It all takes many FPM (frames per minute) so it doesn't look so choppy. So many that it is not really possible to do for more than 5 minutes! But it would still be cool to do a stop motion of a diecast car going around my track a couple of times. I've just gotten my collection of 1/43 scale diecast cars up to 100, by the way! So, how does this idea sound? Stuff like Bathurst, Le Mans, Spa, and Nurburgring are out of the question, but I have a few plans in mind. U.S.A. tracks... 1. Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca 2. Lime Rock Park 3. Road Atlanta 4. Sonoma Raceway 5. New Jersey Motorsports Park World tracks... 1. Brno 2. Magny-Cours 3. Estoril 4. Catalunya 5. Nurburgring (GP circuit) 6. Silverstone 7. Imola 8. Fuji 9. Interlagos 10. Montreal 11. Phillip Island 12. Kyalami I will update this if I ever get it off the ground! |

That'd be really cool!
Best of luck, keep us posted. Selby |

Brno would be uber-cool, but where would you get scale models of Eastern European houses/buildings from? Go for it!
