2015 British GT season

"A luminous green/scarlet BMW???!!! Couldn't think of anything better!!!!" Nobody said, thought or expected to hear...

http://www.britishgt.com/newsitem.php?key=2271

Meanwhile, a lot of cars have been confirmed with no drivers:
1x Beechdean Aston Martin GT3
1x Beechdean Aston Martin GT4
1x Eurospares Racing Ferrari GTC
1x Eurospares Racing Lamborghini GTC
2x FF Corse Ferrari GT3
1x TF Sport Aston Martin GT4

And with drivers:
Beechdean Aston Martin GT3 - Jonny Adam, Andrew Howard (what a surprise)
Fox Motorsport Ginetta GT4 - Jamie Stanley, Paul McNeilly
Optimum Motorsport Ginetta GT4 - Graham Johnson, Mike Robinson
Team Russia by Barwell Racing with Demon Tweeks BMW GT3 - Phil Keen, Jon Minshaw
TF Sport Aston Martin GT3 - Matt Bell, Derek Johnston
Twisted Team Parker Ginetta GT4 - Bradley Ellis, Adrian Barwick

And the 2015 calendar has been revealed as well:

Rd1,2 - Oulton Park (4-6 April)
Rd3 - Rockingam (2-3 May)
Rd4 - Silverstone (30-31 May)
Rd5 - Spa-Francorchamps (10-11 July)
Rd6 - Brands Hatch (1-2 August)
Rd7,8 - Snetterton (22-23 August)
Rd9 - Donington Park (12-13 September)

Silverstone and Donington yet to have their race duration finalised.

Also new on the bill for British GT in 2015 will be the BRDC F4 championship in support.

So it looks like there'll be another stellar season of British GT action in 2015! Just a few more Aston's on the grid will do fine though

I'll try and get to a couple of rounds as usual next year. Sadly it isn't always possible.

The BMW looks mega!

I also see that Trackspeed are up for sale. They have been a great support of the championship over the last few years.

Just picking this up to add some more entries announced over the last couple of weeks-
  • Marco Attard back in the Barwell/Ecurie Ecosse BMW with Alexander Sims, alongside the already announced Minshaw/Keen car
  • Team LNT factory Ginettas back in GT3- Mike Simpson/Steve Tandy confirmed for one car, but the DSC report about 10 days back referred to this as 'the first of a multi-car entry'
  • Stratton Motorsport GT4 Aston for sisters Chloe and Jade Edwards

Hoy has jumped ship this year, over to an LMP3 drive in the ELMS with Team LNT, driving an ORECA-engined Ginetta-Nissan, partnered by Charlie Robertson.

Pity, I enjoyed watching him chuck the Nissan round this year, but good luck to them both.

13 GT3s and 15 GT4s for the full time entry it seems: http://www.dailysportscar.com/2015/0...t-in-2015.html

Sad that some of the GT3 teams are struggling a bit, but maybe an indication of economy rather than interest. Looks like Triple 8 have been hit quite hard, but hopefully we'll see them back.

At least the size of the GT4 separates them from the grey mass of European national & international GT3 series that all look and sound identical today. Nobody but nerds could separate those series from each other if you hide the series name.

The popularity of the class, even if it's largely tied to Ginetta & Aston one make presency, is surprising considering the fate of GT4 elsewhere. Though admittely it's slightly less dead than few years ago, with the rebirth of the forgotten European series etc. I would've though spec series cars would've risen quicker to the surface than this GT3-junior formula

Not surprised GT3 numbers have dropped a bit with the current budgets, I expect to see 888 in Blancpain with at least one car but that's a guess.

Actually, single-class series are pretty much dying out these days. France is adding a silhouette class (and apparently also Mitjet cars) to the main show to make up the numbers, so ADAC GT will be the only national single-class GT-series left in Europe.

I wouldn't have said the FFSA GT grid was too bad last season. But then again, this is the first time I've compared it to British GT, and it isn't as impressive.

Hopefully we'll have more part-time entries to the series during the year - at least in the 3-hour race. TV package will do a lot to decide that, I suppose.

BGT has had it so good of late, we got used to seeing large grids as 'the norm'. As long as we still get the great racing then its not that much to worry about (here's hoping the reduced numbers mean quality over quantity), and the larger GT4 field should also provide some good action!

When was the last time 3 Evoras were on the grid together!? ...and are we actually going to see a Porsche at all this year!?

*edit* - scratch my initial reply, already in the opening post - the Eurospares cars with GTC Ferrari and Lamborghini entries. No idea of drivers.

Wonder if the Jones brothers will be in a Merc or McLaren this time around!?

Personally I am delighted that GT4 seems to be finally getting decent sized grids; my surprise is that it didn't happen sooner, given the availability of suitable cars and the relative affordability (which appears to be particularly good value if you compare even to things like the Porsche Club series in the UK!

I think that the category would become even more popular if the various one make GT series around such as the Porsche Cup, Ferrari Challenge and Maserati & Lambourghini Trofeos could be developed for GT4 spec cars (or with kits to upgrade the cars the GT4)

I would have thought at least the Porsche Cup and Lamborghini Trofeo cars were nearer to GT3 pace. Theoretically we should see a Lambo in the GTC class so it'll be intriguing to see how quick it is.

Not sure how much it takes to produce a competitive GT4 car - must be a reason why not many are developing cars for this class!?

I think more manufacturers will start developing GT4 cars as the budgets for GT3 is going up it limits the number of people able to do it.
I expect to see a proper Porsche developed Cayman GT4 and an Audi TT based GT4 within the next year or so

The problem with GT4 in the well established one make series is precisely what you say - they are a good deal faster and have actually had quite a bit of performance creep over the years. Which has also been a sales argument as you'd often read something like "the new 991 Cup is much more of a proper race car than it's predecessor" in press releases introducing new models. That being the case, spec'ing down would be very much counter-intuitive: "Buy our car, it's much less of a race car!"

Quote:

Porsche suppossedly have something in the works for GT4. Or rather lower tier customer racing in general - the new Cup-cars aren't nearly as ubiquotious in club racing as the 996s of yore and that's gotta hurt Porsche's spares business, so it makes good sense to reclaim that spot from the Astons and Seats.

A Dutch team offered an UPGRADE kit for the 996 Cup to to bring it up to GT4 spec, and raced it in Euro GT4 2-3 seasons ago so I assume that GT4 Porsches are quicker than the Cup cars.

There is already a factory developed GT4 Audi TT and a BMW M3, as well as Camaro and Mustang.

Surely the Lamboghini Trofeo cars are a long way from GT3 (and far cheaper)and could be subject to Balance of Performance.

The cars are out there.
