So finally Button get's a failure. It seems like it should have happened long ago, but Sato has taken most of it up to now. Too bad for Jenson. This doesn't help his aspirations to get back on the track for podiums. Did they say what the problem was?

I'd be interested to see speed trap times, to see who's looking particularly strong. It's still a relative power circuit - great overtaking spot into the hairpin at the end of the main straight - can't wait to see Sato into there on race day!!!

Shame. Bang goes any chance of a podium for BAR this weekend then.

Better now than on Sunday, but that penalty seems a might harsh (especially when it hits home). I wonder how Sato will respond; can't be too good for his psyche.

It'll be intersting to see how JB responds to this both in quali tomorrow and in the race on Sunday. I think it's a distinct possibility that the BARs will be running on different strategies now.

Bad luck for Jenson, but it's certainly overdue considering the siutation in the team. Drivers in this position have scored good points finished by simply skipping qualifying and running heavy, which hopefully BAR will be smart enough to do.

I am not sure you can say its bad luck if an engine blows on a friday (it is BAD LUCK when it goes on Sunday). Most of Honda engines have gone on Sundays this season.

Thats not to say it still will not go on Sunday!

Big shame, as Button is out of the real top I think.

It is possible to climb from the back, just ask Fisichella who has done it twice this year. With good strategy of course.

He can't compete much anyway with it being close at this circuit...if McLaren AND Williams are competitive this weekend then BAR have no chance.

Not sure, if not they must be catching up with Mercedes.

Anyone know the score, Sato's Honda Vs Kimi's Merc on blow-ups?

That's going to make it impossible for Button to get a podium position on Sunday, all he can do is try & salvage some points from the weekend.

Agreed jetsetter, podiums out of the question, however, it's worth remembering that Jenson secured a point after starting 17th at last years German GP. (this followed the British gp where he scored a point after starting last).

It's not going to be Jensons most rewarding GP of the season, but (hopefully) the penalty is not all doom and gloom.

Honda vs. Mercedes

Australia: Kimi's Merc
Malaysia: Sato's Honda (plus they changed the engine after Sato's spin in qual)
Bahrain: Kimi's Merc x2, DC 1
Imola: Kimi and Sato, both 1
Spain: neither
Monaco: both 1
Europe: Kimi and Sato 1, DC 2
Canada: Sato 1
USA: neither
France: Sato 1
GB: neither
Hocke: Button 1

Mercedes-Honda looks like it is 9-7.

Interesting stats. Here's a question, why did everyone start speculating that Sato was an engine destroyer and not Kimi? (I'm meaning before the European GP)

13th is Jenson's best ever grid position in Germany.

And he's scored points in three out of four starts there.

So he's in with a chance!

It equals his best, which was in 2002. That year he retired.
