Steve Williams Group A Touring Car, Help needed

In need of some help, does anyone out there have any photo's or race information on Steve Williams Holton Spares sponsered VK Group A touring car from 1987/1988.

I am in the process of gathering information for this vehicle so that I can obtain a CAMS Historic certificate of desciption and Historic log book.

Steve ran this car at a limited number of AMSCAR and ATCC rounds and from my research so far i can't seem to find to many mentions or photo's at these meetings only enrty information, below are a few meetings that the car competed at and hopefully one of you out there may remember the car and hopefully have some info that would help in my application for Historic status.

The car competed:

Round 9: July 5 1987, Oran Park ATCC.
Round 6: May 22 1988, Lakeside ATCC.
Round 7: May 29 1988, Sandown ATCC.
Round 8: June 19 1988, Amaroo Park ATCC.
Round 9: July 17 1988, Oran Park ATCC.

I also believe it ran at 3 Amscar rounds during this period.

and then it was entered for the Toohey's 1000 in 1988 but DNQ due to Major engine drama's and lack of practice qualifying time not to mention the uproar over the 130% World Touring car Group A rules.

The car today is still in it's original levery from the Tooheys 1000 in 1988 in need of a liitle bit of paint touch up where the daygo orange has faded over the past 17 years.

I can be contacted on e-mail dinnes@bigpond.net.au

If I remember rightly... it is an ex-Finnigan shell, filled with bits and pieces from Mike Burgmann's destroyed 1985 Commodore....

Pete55, The car that Ken Mathews raced with Tony Mulvihill in floro Orange had various updates and finished it's life as a Walkinshaw.

GTRMagic, When i spoke to Steve some years ago i recall him saying that the Shell came from came from Barry Graham, but i have also been told otherwise so im not quite sure where it came from now all i know is that the cage was installed by Bond Roll Bars and is dated 1987 as for the bits i believe that some of the parts came from finnigan, I had alway's wondered what the story was with the fuel bladder as it has GRICE 1986 on it but after reading some info in one of the Bathurst Books the car looks like it was pulled up at scurtineering for not having an exp date so maybe they purcahsed it of Les Small over that weekend?

This is what i believe too!!

As i have mentioned in the other old group c/a link, being involved with the Mobile Concrete Pumping era, i don't believe the shell would have come from Barry Graham, as he never has a shell.

I have discussed your car with others, and the belief was that the Williams family had a connection with the Burgmann's, and he obtained all the spares after the accident, and the colours of the shell initially looks very much like Finnigans

Does anybody happen to know how i can get into contact with Terry to find out if he remembers anything.

I have since been sent some info from williamdale jr that suggests that Mal Rose co drove with Steve, And seeing that Mal was Mike Burgmans co driver the year of that fatal crash it does make a conection with the Burgmans possible, I am yet to contact Mal to find out what he remembers.

Thanks for the info guy's and keep it coming it all helps and is greatly needed

Cheers

Dylan

I believe the spares for Burgmans car are used in this car, but i know that none of the parts on the crashed car made it onto this car. Burgman had a rather large range of spares for the car considering it was a low budget racer.

About 2 years ago when i first purchased the car, I actully rang him to see if the original log book had ever turned up as when the car was purchased by a friend of mine in about 1992, Steve didn't know where the log book was and thought that Tim Shenkin (CAMS) may have held onto it after Bathurst in 1988, We had a chat about the car and i got some info off him back then about 2 weeks later Steve rang me and said the Log Book had apeared so as you can imagine i was rapt, He sent it to me via post but it never turned up!!!

A long shot could be Mathew Hunt at Surflow Exhausts, Ingleburn N.S.W.

He has Terry's old VS Supercar so he may have contact details.

Bob Stevens did a lot of work on Burgmans car, so he would be a bloke to call.

Does Terry Finnigan still have his workshop just off Fairfield rd?

I read some were that the Williams car was built in 86.

If the car was Silver (which it seems to be by the other pic) it would seem to be the first of the Finnigan Vk's (Houn Valley Springs)which Terry stopped using after one of the races at Surfers in 87 I think. He built a new car for Bathurst 87 so the old car would have just been a shell.

Unsure if it was Damaged at the Surfers race, still trying to find a race report which mention's it

I spoke with CAMS the other day to see it the Chassis number on the car and on there records for log book application matched any of Terry's cars and it didn't match so i think that rules out the theory that it may have been one of Terry's shells.
