Oval Qualifying Sessions Cut
A link to the IndyCar announcement, and some thoughts on the effects of cutting the on-track time. And about Versus. And standing starts for road courses.

2 laps is OK, I'd say. But they should keep it at 4 at Indy, for reasons of continuity.

Standing starts is a must. Indy should go for it.
Standing starts is the first thing that calls the attention to people that its not interested in the sport. Even my grandma wants to watch F1 standing starts. After the standing start, the difficult thing is to hold the TV spectators but that is a different story. Regarding qualy cutting, I also think 2 laps is few. |

Don't worry, Yannick.
Two laps in a 25s lap means some 50s per try. The slightest error (including lifting too much) will make a hughe impact. I'd prefer 3 laps in cookie-cutters (and Fontana), and 4 laps at Indy and short ovals. Texas could be an exception: how about the first 2 laps for the first race grid and the second 2 laps for the second race? |
