It's not about clearing the blockage it's about the way positions are decided afterwards so as to encourage people to clear the track in the most efficient way. At Long Beach (most) of the drivers weren't driving in a selfish way through the wrecks, but if they come to expect this kind of thing you'll find the first car to get there is going to make sure it blocks in every car behind come hell or high water. Certainly if they had been prepared Corvette Racing would have left the #4 to sit there until the #3 could get out.
In the rule book the penalty for passing under yellow is correction or a drive through. It's perfectly justifiable to ask them to wait for the car they passed to get back in order and/or place them back in the final standings. It also shouldn't be too difficult to figure out that any car that stopped after the waved yellow was already out and didn't spin or hit anything wasn't really in an incident. I know there's going to be this NASCAR attitude that the race can't end under yellow and the car that crosses the line first has to keep the win but sometimes you can't avoid it. |

Who would it hurt to just adjust the finishing order to the order in which they came up to the blockage? I'm fine with it as is, but I do see an argument that if they set this precedent, the drivers will feel it is ok to race a little more through local yellows, since being too cautious going through could cost you spots now. But I think it's just an extreme circumstance that is fine as is.

The drivers did nothing wrong. And you won't get a rise out of me from your personal attacks. You'll have to do much better than that to stop me from babbling, so fill your boots. |

This thread needs to close for a bit, as the race is over and nothing of value is being posted.
