Hmmmm

Doesn't exactly set the pulses racing does it.

Hopefully one of them would bring enough money to allow the team to run a decent underfunded driver?

I'd be less certain of that. What may be possible is a very quick pair of hands makes the occasional appearance with the team in one or two weekends. Unfortunate, especially considering what Ghiotto was able to do in his rookie season last year, but needs must.

And now for GP2 read FIA Formula Two...

This is not what the motorsport world needed.

It needed a new category that would promote engineering as well as driver skills to mirror F1 to a certain level.

GP2 is fading because it costs too much to risk being an also ran.

I expect bigger changes will come from 2018 onwards. For 2017 it's just a rebrand

Makes sense, as they were supposed to be bringing in a new chassis and engine package next year even before this had been mooted, so I think it's going to be a case of getting through this year and then changing whatever they need to for 2018 - let's hope the FIA make a better job of it than they did with F3 or the previous F2 championship (assuming that is what they do)...

On the driver front, even if it is Armand that gets the second Trident drive alongside Jeffri, I'm struggling to think of anyone that could fill the remaining seats at Campos or Rapax, as well as Hilmer or whoever takes the 11th entry (if anyone) - any thoughts?

This is good news if it means it becomes a proper single seater category with multiple engine makes in it. It could happen and I hope it does, as GP2 seems to have gone a bit downhill recently

I doubt it. People are reading too much into the name, Michel indicated the next chassis\engine package will be spec as well.

Would Armand / Jeffri be possibly the worst lineup in the history of gp2? Trying to think of others.

Gp2 needs to be a spec series, it's expensive enough as it is. Too expensive really, they need to look into what they can do to make it more affordable and relevant.

Hilmer won't show. Hopefully rapax and campos will. I think cecotto was trying to return again? What's happening with e.g. Dennis?

Edit: Oh, Campos have just signed Boschung. Meh.

Boschung is exactly the sort of left-field signing I expect to see at this stage of the off-season. Palou for the second seat perhaps? At least Campos will be there - I did have my fears.

How about Rapax, any ideas who might show up there? Canamasas perhaps?

A spec series is not relevant at all. For it to be a proper final school for F1 it needs to be about driver and engineering development and not a wishy washy tyre formula.

This sort of thing can be achieved within a cost effective framework.

Regarding Rapax, Cecotto did an interview before Christmas saying he was working on getting the funds together for this year, i assumed the fact that De Vries tested with them added up to something or has he lost the McLaren support now Norris is on board?

De vries and Cecotto confirmed at Rapax according to Autosport.

Mehri would be very interesting if it comes off. I actually think the GP2 - sorry, F2 - field looks quite open so if he settles he could be a contender

Blimey, now that would be very exciting, i have always really rated him, i thought he got very short changed at Manor, would love to see him in GP2/F2 next year.
