Stonking performances from Alonso and Schumacher. Both Williams also v good - MW closed his gap to NH a little. Best thing you can say about JV is that he won't be getting in the way quite as much. PDLR does a very nice job on Kimi. Wish I'd been able to see it on TV - looks like a good session!

Fissi needs to get his act together if he wants to mount a championship challenge.
Well done to williams and pedro

Why is there such a big gap between MS and Barrichello?

I believe the biggest reason for the gap between the 2 Ferrari is the matter of Rubens only having about 15 laps on the car, counting the 2 qualifying sessions. His gear box problem came when he only had about 10 laps and he didn't participate in the remaining practices.

I figure Rubens must have a very full fuel tank and is looking to do what he did in Australia. DC may have a similar strategy, as he has done that many times over the years.

I give Michael a slightly better than 50 50 chance of the win. He won't pass Fernando on the track though.

It does look like we'll have a good race for a change though - not just strategy, but racing on the track too and nearer the front.

I don't think Ferrari can make those tyres last - it would be a huge turn-around in just a fortnight. I'm going to stick my neck out and predict DNF for Schumacher - they'll be stronger in Imola.

Alonso looks amazingly strong. For me it's the first time he really looks ready to top MS. Well done Williams. Great effort from Klien as he outqualified the Macs and Fisico.
Also Ralf improved 5 places.

Great effort Klien!! He loves Bahrain, doesn't he (recall the battle with Kimi that got everyone talking about this young Austrian).

And finally, Monteiro and Albers a little quicker than their teammates, Minardi will improve by about a second a lap when the PS05 debuts. They get RBR's spec Cossie and a (hopefully) semi-competitive chassis under them.

Poor Rubens, but Michael isn't safe either. I am also going to put my head on the proverbial chopping board and say he will DNF. Just a gut feeling.

The race will be Alonso's tonight, but Williams should be expecting to see both their cars on the podium following the Renault. de la Rosa should be hoping for points, as should Klien, Trulli and Ralf. Also expect another storming drive from Massa with a heavy fuel load...

Karthikeyan must have made a mistake as he had a huge cushion between him and Montiero after the first session.

PDLR has done a fabulous job - from the very worst possible quali 1 start. Hope he can hold it together in the race, which is set to be the hottest ever F1 race.

Barrichello in the final sector lost the gearbox again. He parked up on the start/finish straight.

Ferrari will stick with the F2005 and go about repairing Friday's or today's gearbox.

Pedro must be well pleased. Stonking effort from him to out do Kimi. The McLarens really aren't showing the pace they promised though are they. Ferrari seem to be back in action and the Renault's look great too. Toyota and RBR continue to impress. Bring on the race .

It's ahrd to believe that Pedro has managed to come to a track he'd never raced at and done so well in a completely alkien quialifying system.

What went wrong for Fisichella? Well done to Klien for making a strong showing at what may prove to be his best track. The battle at the front looks strong, and well done to Ralf for a much better second lap, closing the gap to Jarno on the grid - he needs a good performance.

If circumstances fall for them, any of the top 10 can win this race.

It's a long time since F1 has been so competitive.

Well done to pedro De La Rosa....he has exceeded my expectations immensely!

A good race in prospect then......I will tip Trulli for this one with a Ferrari breakdown and a problem for Alonso. Stop laughing at the back!

JV....oh dear.

In fact everybody made a mistake.
That's why Alonso managed to get pole (with a big mistake at the end of his first session, and a small mistake at the start of his second session), and Michael managed to get p2 (with a big mistake in his second session).
