CTCRC Silverstone 8th / 9th May

All classes out including Pre 66 Classics, Post Historic Touring Cars (Pre 73), Group 1 Touring Cars (Pre-83's), Pre-93 Touring Cars and the very exciting Classic Thunder/Ford Boss with an eclectic variety of cars (Rob are you bringing Harry out?) so some good exciting racing guaranteed to be had on the day. I will be in Post Historics in the yellow Camaro. Most racing will take place on the Sunday as all quallies will be done on Saturday.

I've entered this, a bit mickey mouse circuit/duration wise but a good shakedown race, and I can re familiarise half the circuit for the following weekend at least.

actually I'm looking forward to seeing if my testing pace has any bearing on race pace and whether I've kept up with anyone else over the winter

last time I did the national circuit Arthur was 7 weeks old, it was his first race meeting . . . .

I got back to the pits and there was a hum in the tow car . . . . Mrs Zef pulling funny faces and pointing at the nappy bag . . . . happy days!!!!!!

Indeed I do Al . . . the yellow beast was there as well, I had terminal understeer. bald tyres, toe out and struggled racing a mini miglia!

at least I didn't set much of a lap time to beat!

Did someone call?

Would I be out on the 8th/9th May - don't know. The way things are going, no.

IF I get time this week, I'll have the sump back on, but I still have a fair bit of work to do before I can test it.

I'd like to see some of this series...but we're at Brands......probably wave at you as you travel back down South and we travel back North, on Sunday evening.....

Have a good weekend - see your weather forecast is much the same as ours...Saturday light rain, Sunday Grey cloud......fortunately we've got qually and race on Sunday, unlike some of the CSCC fraternity

Just got home, we where going to stay, but in Typical fashion it was cold, wet and windy, Standard Silverstone basically.

Circuit was dreadful this morning, greasey as hell and pitted/rutted on the old circuit, which is again typical I think? then uber grip on the new bit . . . . which was the club straight! It really highlighted that my car is way too stiffly sprung, and my rear tyres are 3 years old! I struggled like hell to turn in and was feathering in 3rd through Woodcote it was handling so badly . . . hey ho, no major dramas, Q5 of 21 I think

it dried out through the morning then started raining 15 minutes before our race ( yee ha!) I sat on the grid spinning my wheels for a few seconds while a load of minis drove off with the front 2 rows . . . once I got going I quickly passed the minis on the straight, and past Richard Spriggs Anglia, which was ploughing on ( we all did it at least ten times at Becckets, woeful piece of tarmac, probably as much grip on the grass!) and was briefly running 3rd . . . . Richard got past me a lap later as I just couldn't get any power down from Brooklands all the way through to the finish line, it was all over the place, thereafter I was on my own, slowed a little, nothing in my mirrors but stayed awake to finish 4th.

a combination on my crap suspension on a crap surface with crap weather sort of dissapointed, but I can't complain at 4th overall, unsuprisingly a mini won,

I will be tweaking to make sure I can at least attempt to beat that Anglia again at Brands next month. good behaviour all round, I was probably as guilty as anyone of frightening slides.

Commiserations to Nick in the Anglia, popped a fuel pump fuse on the grid! Bring on Brands, a far superior race circuit

would have been nice to stay for the BBQ, the atmosphere was good and relaxe, meeting well run, just typical Silverstone weather got in the way

See, Joe, that's what happens when you get too much power out of the engine department ...

What happened Al? 5th(!) in the first one, then DNF. Still you got the fastest lap int he second race..... The CT/BOSS race was full to the brim by the looks of it. That's what we like to see, full grids.

I am gutted it you want the truth and a true game of two halfs both brilliant and bad! I had a very good damp qually and was very surprised to find myself 5th on the grid way in front on many of the lighter and normally quicker in these conditions cars. I think what it was I spun on some oil on the 2nd lap so I just built up my pace progressively from there instead of going bull at a gate and then started reeling cars in maybe my heavier car managed to get more heat into the tyres on this very cold day I dont know but I found a lot of grip. Come the race I never got a great start loosing out to Neil Bray who was behind be but then I got infront of 2nd race winner Nigel Garrett's Dolly Sprint and started reeling in the RS2000's that out quallified me and got up to 3rd. Nigel evetually got by but I was hanging on in then towards the end of the race my tyres started to go off bad and I was understering a lot allowing Will Jenkins to close up in the CSL. We trade places several times but in the end the superior suspension of the Bimmer and its better management of the tyres proved too much so I came in 5th the same as I started but in different order. DAve Howard was overall winner in the V12 Jag, with Neil 2nd. Nigel 3rd, Will 4th then me.

Thats how we started race 2 and I have never been so fired up, I got a good start and challenged for the lead by turn 1 but was hassled out and had to get out the throttle by Neil and Nigel and had to back out. Dave Howard had grenaded the jag engine in spectaular fashion in the Pre-93 race so was not out. I was hanging on nicely to 4th well staying with the leaders and had actively taken wider lines to give my tyres half a chance, I closed right up entering the main straight and had set myself up tp take at least two cars, floored the throttle and the bloody linkage failed!!!!! Talk about gutted I sure I would have had a 2nd and recon I may even have been able to challenge for a win as the car was working great who knows but there you go such is motor racing eh Lewis? As an aside I pulled well off the track got the bonnet up and was about to effect a repair with a tie wrap but was told by the marshall I couldnt do that (where is the Mille Miglia spirit eh? :-) as I only need to finish to get a class win! In hindsight I should have tried to limp to the pits and fixed it there.

I will try to YouTube the first race later if the start marshal turned my camera on properly!

Blimey Al, you did have a torrid time. Good to see you had the old tub going well without other problems. Now for a more robust throttle linkage I guess.....

No nothing as drastic as that, its the stock cable and its ultra reliable, it was a 10p knackered nylock nut that worked loose, poor prep I am afraid!

Here is some nice incar footage, Part 1 of Race 1. I will post part 2 up later but this is my best video yet with my new Sony Solid state camera which with its easy upload software, light weight and good price I will recommend to anyone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kX9zqS-7AEw

Well worth a look as some exciting racing and turn the volume up and see just why I race these things as they sound incredible. Looking back on the video I think I pussy footed around too long with the Blue RS2000 and the silver Dolomite as it allowed Nigel to get away in the Green Dolly and Will in the CS to close in.
