You're probably thinking of Nick Whiting (Charlie's brother?). I don't think he was the boss of Formula One Racewear though. I can't remember the guy's name but he was quite a colourful character at the time.

There were lots of interesting people associated with motor racing, particularly around Brands Hatch, in the seventies. Remember Sydney Miller?

Yes, Charlie was Nick's brother. He worked on Nick's cars (Escorts) in the early days.

Brilliant Gordon; so takes me back to my 'yoof' - the hair that is!!

I must confess to never having used Satnav, although I have 'sat' next to drivers who do and even as a passenger, a disconnected voice telling me where to turn is unnerving. Like Iain, I have maps in the car, but also sometimes use AA routeplanner.
I see what was thought to be the oldest person in the world has died at the age of 117, the last person to have been born in the 19th century. Bit of a shock when I realised that my father would have been 117 next month!

The way the world is going I certainly don't want to be around that long.

On the subject of sat navs, mine seems to have lost its voice, so maybe it's time for a new one, not that I use it that much.

Wasn't Nick Whiting's business called 'All Car Equipe', as advertised on his yellow Escort, if I remember correctly.

I had to smile when you mentioned Charlie and this snippet shows you why !

How did you wind up becoming FIA technical delegate in 1988?
Bernie told us towards the end of the 1987 season that he wasn't going to run Brabham anymore, but said that he would find something else. Some guys stayed on for another project Bernie ran with Alfa Romeo, called ProCar - a silhouette formula that was supposed to be running out of the old Brabham factory. He suggested that I should go to work for FISA as I was familiar with the things teams could to do to cheat and he thought that I was probably a good person to try to catch them!

Alan at the time I was working at a garage in T Wells and one of our clients went bust through getting involved with the Southern Organs scam, although he was a completely innocent party.

Lovely bike ride into work this morning. here is a picture of some of the countryside I go though on the 15 mile ride from home to work.
Just need United to win against Chelsea and Bottas to win the GP. This will then be just a perfect day.

I was reading an interesting article in 'Global Science Today'. Apparently North Korea have managed to hack into some geo orbital satellites that carry the Sat Nav signals, and are now able to target every user with their own individual nuclear missile.

Certainly made me laugh.

I'm curious as to how many youngsters that have frequented the 'Wringer + Mangle' nightclub in Hackney (unfortunately in the news for wrong reasons) wonder or know what the name refers to?

My guessing is that the building housed a laundry in a former life- it certainly looks like it.....

Quite right Mike, The Wringer + Mangle is an up market restaurant based in what used to be an industrial laundry.

Well I would know that wouldn't I?

"Keyless Go", one of the 'must have' extras on new cars, apparently.

Except that software is now available and being used to nick cars so equipped. It picks up the signal from your keys in the house and amplifies them so the car thinks it's you. Door unlocks, car starts, job done.......

Central locking on my truck is the opposite- it keeps locking the doors even if you keep unlocking them. Probably a preferable 'issue', but I do have to remember not to leave keys in when shutting door......

Hope its not true, but stories just starting to circulate in the news (if you count the Mirror as a newspaper) that Billy Monger has lost his lower legs after his horrendous crash in F4 at Donny.....Tom Ingram has started a justgiving page to support a trust fund, apparently.

Could it be that you have got an autonomous truck, Mike?

Just think, no more long drives to Spain etc - you could send it off on its own, then jet in at the last minute to meet up with it at the circuit!

I think we can take it that the news is correct. Very sad but not beyond the realms of possibility that he will be racing again at some point.

I don't know anything about F4 chassis construction, but maybe it's behaviour in front impact needs some serious thought.....

I'm obviously ahead of the game! Perhaps it can fill itself with diesel as well and pay with its own credit card...

I see the young lady who had the run-in with that self-righteous prig Jeremy Vine has been jailed!

She could have made it worthwhile, done us all a favour & flattened him - he'll be even more insufferable than ever now.
