JasagRacer should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
This is brilliant guys. I spent much too much of the 70's at Brands watching special saloons. I remember many racing @ Lydden, even in the early 90's. I have some pictures of S/S Imps and a few of the other cars mentioned in this thread. It was a great series that allowed the engineer in you enough design flexibility.
Tony Sugden's Skoda was awesome.
So was the Chimp.(Jonathan Buncombe's S2000 Imp with a BDG)

Hi Chaps, Converted some VHS to Mpeg yesterday. Heres a Wendy Wools Special Saloon car race from Castle Combe. I have loads more to upload Including the Barry Reece Trophy meeting from Lydden.
Thanks to Tony Davis wife for recording these races. Great memories. When cars were rawkus, tracks were dangerous and a set of tires would last a whole meeting then another two meetings after that!

Hi,
I am interested in the early Maguire mini mentioned,we bought chassis #002 from John Maguire when new in late '77 or early '78 and ran it in 8 port 1300 guise for most of season '78,as we could'nt afford to run it competetively we sold it to a chap called Nick Hamley before the end of the season, have no idea what happened to it after then, anyone got any ideas ? would now like to find it.
Chassis #001 was built for a chap called Mike Parkes, his new bare spaceframe was hiding under a sheet in the Maguire workshop one day when we called in to see John,he tried to fight us off for a while but we managed to get the sheet off and were blown away by it and ordered one there and then !! we were running a steel bodied car at the time and were struggling against all the BDA engined cars that had started appearing.

Mike ran his car with an Arden 8 port 1000 engine and was very quick.

Hi Keith,
Many thanks for your rapid reponse.
What can I tell you about the car ?
It was electic blue in colour,as were several of our cars around that time (previous Cooper S,1000 Mini Miglia,Metro Challenge).
It was fitted with a 1290 Weslake 8 port headed short stoke engine running on 4 Amal carbs, which was taken complete from our previous car and fitted 'as was' to the Maguire car because we could'nt afford to rebuild it !
We bought a bare spaceframe from John with a set of body panels, when fitting the rear quarter panels we 'joggled' them in to the steel skeleton of the body and fixed them with hand peened countersunk ally rivets and blended over flush with a skim of filler.
Not much info I know, but I hope it helps to identify it.
Regards,
Ron Carvell.

Hi Keith,
I will try and get a photo to you, when I can work out how to do it !!
The chassis was number 002 TS or TS 002, TS meaning Tom Sheperd who was working with John at the time and must have built this frame.
The body had a fibreglass roof fitted to the steel skeleton.
The fibreglass boot panel had a Maguire fabricated ally spoiler on it.
I will pass on anything else as I think of it.
Thanks again for your help.
Regards,
Ron.

Keith, if you're in NI and into Maguire kit... have you connected with George Crozier at all ? He had a Maguire Mini and a Maguire Metro as well. I think [but of course stand corrected] that both were built by Tom Shephard when he was working at John Maguire's. Not sure whether he still has either.
