That's a bit of science-fiction. The 8 MJ allowance is the amount of energy allowed to be recovered per full lap of Circuit de la Sarthe. The actual capacity of an ERS will be much lower than that.

Can it be simply a matter of proportions. Le mans is 13.7 km long and are required 8MJ per lap to ensure the hybrid boost, silverstone is less than half and could be enough 4MJ per lap.

8mj of energy released per lap at LeMans. But there has been no determined amount of hybrid or electric power released per braking zone/hybrid release zone? There were 7 activation points this year, and each was .5mj allowed release. So if there are still "zones" of hybrid release and it stays at 7, then it would increase to 1.14mj per zone instead of 500kj (.5mj)? I don't know if they will continue with the hybrid zones or just free it up.

I was just watching re-runs of the ADAC GT Masters at the Nürburgring and it got me thinking, wouldn't it be a smart move for Porsche to snatch up Maximilian Buhk as a factory driver? Young, fast, german driver on the rise. I'd be lying if I said I keep track of all the GT drivers as good as some people on here but he seems to stand out from the crowd for me, seems very mature and smart for his age.
Maybe stick him in a GTE for a year or two before letting him in the P1. |

Is it likely that Porsche will set up customer versions of its LeMans program, as they did for their 962 and 956 and other models?

Beyond the price of a work car, much more higher than a lola or a HPD chassis, hybrid and ERS hardware is too much expensive and unsustainable for a private team. The only way to see a porsche, a toyota or an audi lmp1 in the hands of a private will be a backed customer semi-work program like oreca-peugeot in LMS 2010.

Knowing Porsche's proclivity for selling turn-key racers, I think ti might be possibly that a ERS-optional version might hit the market in 2015, after the factory has run for a season and sorted out some things.
A lot depends on who seems interested, I'd guess. (TW, Dyson ran KERS at PLM last season--didn't have the time or cash to develop it but the idea pf a privateer running ERS isn't ridiculous.) |

Is not ridiculous, 2014 HPD coupè customers may choose between not-ERS and ERS equipment (or the ERS has been delayed to 2015?). Problem is that private teams could also somehow handle with an honda "friendly and private target" ESR system, but is hard to believe that will be able to do it with the ERS system of audi, porsche and toyota without manufacturer specialists assistance.

Anyway who are the lmp1 private team so far? Strakka and MM are honda customers, Rebellion will use the oreca R-one with toyota engine, Pescarolo's ambition is unpredictable but doesn't make you think for the best. Dyson very likely will step in lmp2. No news from months about the rumored oak racing coupè.

Key points. First... A customer car not likely to happen immediately. I expect Porsche is focused on building a winning/competative car and then move on to providing a version to privateers. Second... Nobody (even if you have the resources yourself) wants a complicated to operate car. Give them some time to work out the kinks and provide a package that could be run by a privateer. But I do believe there will be the potential for there to need to be some type of Porsche presence within the customer teams to support the powertrain/electronics. So it will be for well funded and organized teams only. Time will tell if it happens. I hope it does. Richard |

I think Henri is one of the best in the field at running a team ..... and sincerly hope he can organize a decent squad again . Maybe a single car entry using the Judd GV4 .

2011 and 2012 shown the two sides of the same pescarolo coin. In 2011 with a good package he was the best man to manage a private team, even with less than half of rebellion resources and money. 2012 season and the lmp1 obsession emerged, and to follow this ambition he started pesca 03 project, using as base the so not encouraging amr-one, without enough cash, making debts and legal proceedings with luxury racing and one of his drivers. He is still great in the paddock but someone else better than him in financial matters should be vested for that role. With 4mln € there is not other alternative than judd. But I don't know if judd will update his engine to fuel flows just for one team.

Looks great, not sure if I like how those rims fit with the car tho... Maybe I'm too used to the ones Audi has.
Can't wait to see some vids of it. |
