McLaren were said to have sold nearly 100 F1s at £635,000 ea. and they claimed that had just paid the costs of the project ( but then did they speak the truth ? ). It was said under 1000 Elises at £23000 would break even, but originally their expectation was only 250 cars a year - at its peak it was more like 2500 and developement was done very much on the cheap and its a very basic car anyway, probably no one really knows unless they are the accountant in the various car companies. Sometimes the reported cost include building a new factory , which may well go on to be used in future models as well . I think you will need to make an educated guess .
