I don't think Barry is an idiot, I actually don't mind his overdramatic commentating. A lot of people slam 10's efforts in the commentary box, but I think they're aren't doing a bad job at all.
Oh, HRT 2001, welcome to ten-tenths |

I think you need someone in the commentary that gets all excited like that, like Murray Walker.
My only complaint is Barry in the pits when a car comes in. He has no idea what to say and it sound ****. BJ |

I totally agree with all the above in regards to his V8 efforts but I love listening to him on the 500cc call. He is a wealth of info and has the ability to read a race fairly well IMO. Also, adds a hell of alot o credence to his comments with his track record. I also enjoy darryl and his calls on the 125's and 250's.
As further defence of Bazza, he has opened a hell of alot of doors for many Aussie riders trying to crack the big time and deserves honuary citizenship for his efforts |

Barry is good on the bikes, but on the V8 telecasts he is about as useful as he was in the factory Toyota Supra Group A car in the BTCC in 1984 and 1985, useless.

The reason Barry needs to wear gloves is because he is a ****er and so he wears them to stop his hands cramping up

Whats the difference between a Lada and a Jehovah's Witness?
You can shut the door on a Jehovah's Witness |

come on guys Barrys not that bad. Do you remember when network 7 had the rights for the touring cars and would feature the races at the most pathetic times of the morning 2.00am not only has chanel 10 done a great job in telecasting our great sport but also in promoting it to an audience that were really only aware of bathurst.. i know who i prefer. However you must admit that sometimes he has made you laugh Im sure that he was always meant to be somewhat of a comic relief

Channel 7b through their commitment to motorsport over the last 30-40 years has not been touched by anyone. People talk of what 10 have done, and how there are more people at races than ever. eg. At Oran Park in 1996 where the v8 category was supposedly at its weakest, there was about 26 thousand, in 2001 there was 28 thousand, reportedly, however it looked like there was more at the 1996 round.
Big improvement. On the sheene issue, I wouldn' know what he is like at the bikes, check it out on Foxtel, Kevin McGee and Warren make motor cycling racing sensational. |

I appreciate your commitment to channel 7's history but I could never understand why the only race that was telecast at reasonable time of the day was Bathurst I for one did'nt like the way the rest of the s.a.t.c.c. was shown in the wee hours. I dont believe that channel 10 are the only ones responsible for the recent success of the series, but I dont think they've done any damage to it either.
Unfortunatly I have'nt got foxtel yet so I will just settle for the channel 10 broadcast.............. cheers |

Nup, Barry started the move to the OOH ARH commentary and he needs to realise we are not all excitable little boys.
I agree that Kevin Magee for the bikes is the man. And Susie is the woman. |

I reckon Evan Green would do a better job then most of the half wits and he's been dead for 5 or so years.

Re- Melinda- Hrmmm....pretty to look at yes, but...
D.R.T.- I agree with you for once! I seem to remember the days when Ch7 would broadcast the local state level support classes, live, alongside the Touring Cars. These days we seldom ever see state level stuff even on the V8 programs. The thing is that ch10 spread itself around so many different classes. V8s, trackside, World Rally, Australian Rally, WSBK, GPs, Motocross, CART etc etc... Barry- Meh....you've got to live with it. Bikes- Beattie? Blimey... Having seen both the ch10 and Fox coverage of the Australian Bike GP, the Fox boys were much more into it...heck, Warren went horse by half race distance! |

If channel 7 were still covering Bath-Hurst we would all be saying how useless Roy and HG are.

Melinda Price, hell yes, she would be great.
Suzy Perry, even better. It's just a pity that on the World Superbikes we hardly see her, mostly just her voice, although i was a fan of her top she wore at Monza! Warren, he would be awesome for any motor race, and he is very well informed and knowledgeable about the bikes, much better than that David Murdoch, he didn't have a clue. RE: Channel 7 - Network 10 haven't matched 7s coverage of Bathurst, and as for late night time slots, in NSW we got most of them between 4 and 6pm, but i suppose same time nationally is better. Roy & HG at Bathurst, they would give a good interview with Ingall. Last edited by racer69; 28 Oct 2001 at 13:09. |

But I'm a bit interested to know how you can say Channel 7's coverage can't be touched. TEN have done a great job... but then, that's to a point. Lesser classes don't get a run, and our premier category is barely seen as the attention is devoted to tin-tops. |

In my opinion, a great commentator can make you watch a boring race and still be interested. Just about any idiot can keep you interested in a good race...isn't that right Crash?
Murray Walker could do it and Keith and Jules could do it with SBK. The channel 10 guys can't quite do it. On their best day, maybe. Barry Sheene seems to have taken a huge step forward with his bike commentary this year as he is now imparting his knowledge a lot more than he used to...now all he needs is a better play-by-play guy alongside him. Darryl Beattie is improving race by race, but still has some way to go yet. Greg Rust. Since meeting him, I have liked his commentary more. It has also improved this year. |

Elephino- don't you start complaining....you haven't ever heard me ramble on over the PA before!
I suppose it isn't the hardest thing in the world to do, if you know what you're talking about, and you get along with your co-commentators, it probably helps a lot. |

I think channel 10 should hire the finest commentator in the Motor Sport world today. Darryl Eastlake. He has it all abbility, eloquence and an infinant knowlege of Motor Sport. I tell you it would be HHHHHUUUUUGGGGGEEEEE.................
