Death of a Volunteer
I know its not its not tin tops , but alas, a volunteer died supporting a form of motor sport, having grown up on Speedway in Central Victoria , I feel for his family, and competitors who love this type of motorsport, and as a volunteer Motorsport Official, it is a sad day when one of our volunteer family passes at a meeting.
RIP SPEEDWAY AUSTRALIA RELEASE Re – Fatality at Whyalla Speedway The management and staff of Speedway Australia wishes to send itssincere and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of one of our dearly valued volunteers and Speedway officials who tragically lost his life while conducting duties at the Westline Speedway in Whyalla on Saturday the 28th of March. This is also extended to other parties who sadly were affected and involved in the incident including competitors, other volunteer officials, spectators and venue management. Thankfully the sport of Speedway is like one big family and at times like this, the Speedway family will galvanise and do everything we can to support all involved. Speedway Australia as the National Governing body is continually being vigilant and proactive in working with its 87 tracks and over 11,000 members across the country in maintaining and upholding safety levels to protect all parties who either participate or are involved in the sport in any way. Sadly in all forms of sport freak accidents can happen and at this time our sport has been handed one of these tragic events. As with any serious accident or in this case, an extremely rare fatality within the sport, Speedway Australia will work with all parties in carrying out a full investigation into the facts surrounding the case. As a sport we will be very proactive in supporting any required new safety standards through venue policies and procedures to continually reduce and eliminate risks within the sport. At this present time though, all our thoughts and energy is toward supporting and helping those sadly involved in this event. We wish to reiterate that if anyone has any concerns or knows of anyone with any type of negative emotional attachment to this event to please contact Speedway Australia head office and we will provide the required support to these people.
