what do you like to see in as F1 Race driver ?

I was just thinking about this , and i have to say it would be a boring world if we all liked the same things and had the same opinions ,

..so ..

What are the main ingredients you like to see in a Formula 1 driver ?.

I know some drivers like that - problem is people on here always slag them off for making mistakes!

good sportsmanship, talent, balls and preferably Italian (previous employment as a fireman would be taken into consideration).

Beard and/or moustaches, so they look less like some marketing consultants.

I would never employ a driver with a beard or moustache.

Facial hair shows a lazy approach to life.

I don't know about that, I daresay some spend more time/effort grooming facial hair than those baldies who scrape it all off their face every morning.

A good attitude towards racing. Fair, clean but not giving an inch. Daring to try an overtaking maneuver. And always ready to get into the car, even after a 320 kph shunt. With a personality and an opinion. Not a clone.

Just somebody who comes across as normal and realises that they are very lucky to be doing what they are doing. Somebody with the spirit of Innes Ireland.

Large breasts and a tight arse!

Oops, I thought this was about what you like to see in a pit babe.

No offense intended....

This must be an extinct species ... unless if the fight is for a 'point' or passion is to 'block' a certain driver and an artificial 'smile' for the cameras and 'brevity'.. thats used in historical context now.

I dont really see passionate and brave racers but more like millionaire premadonnas less sponsor 'clones' with 'you scratch my back and I scratch yours' philosophy.

In current circumstances I would appreciate just about anyone who genuinely drives for his fans and loves 'racing' in true sense of the word.

i agree there Climb !...

I would also have to say that Mansell had everything that i admire in a racing driver :

Gutsy ( anyone remember his debut in Austria where he raced with burns from fuel down his back )

A Pure racer , 2nd place wasnt where he wanted to finish

went for the gap , wasnt affriad of going to wheel to wheel with the best

Always was outspoken , caused drama and stories in F1

had a way of getting the crowds support to a new level .

( only thing was he was a bit of a good actor sometimes which sometimes spoiled it , but that was only neagtive point )

Ditto that Sato.

That's part of the reason I like JPM. I see a bit of Noige in him.

Good point - some of JPM's whines would sound all the more convincing in a Brummie accent...

In a new driver I look for one thing and one thing only - sheer speed.

After that, I look for a winning mentality.

And after that, the intelligence to learn the rest.

Someone mentioned Innes Ireland....I booked a B&B near Snetterton about three/four years ago and after reversing the van & trailer down a very tight path we went in and the hallway was full of motorsport memoribilia and pics and cups and so on from the 50's & 60s' - And so was the rest of the house...

Turned out that the lady of the house was Innes Irelands first wife and she had loads of stuff from his racing days......

Wonder if the place is still there and still a B & B....

Not in this year's F1 grid... But I can say that an example of what I said was winning in Road America about ten years ago...

That was Jacques Villeneuve's first win in CART, as I recall.

You've no doubt opened the floodgates!
