Drink [iV8SC15R34R35R36] Coates Hire Sydney 500, Homebush: 4-6 Dec (WITH POLL)

Its the Grand Final of the V8Supercar Championship Series.

Its a live event, with championship implications.

Driver's Championship is a 2 pilot race. Holden v's Ford.
Mr Winterbottom v's Mr Lowndes, only 179 points apart.
888 at the peak of their form, PRA holding on

Teams Championship is a 2 squad race too. Also Holden v's Ford.
PRA v's 888, only 140 points apart.
888 with two pilots always at the front, PRA with one, and a fill in.

Say whatever you like about the venue... but some stuff is about to go down.

A new champion, a first time one, or perhaps an old dog back to try and score a championship this side of the millennium change will be crowned in Homebush. Its what they fight the whole season for.

Plus 23 other maniacs desperate to shore up their year, drive for their futures, put on a show for sponsors not yet signed, or wavering.. so much to play for in one single event.

And the Teams deal, for that coveted #1 place in pitlane. Bragging rights, mind games and maybe a tiny strategic advantage.. lets see what happens there too...

And the winner is.... you tell me...

There seems to be a lot more at stake here than when Whincup and Courtney went down to the wire.

Should pull a decent crowd.

peckstar has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
an average of 14th will see Frosty as champion assuming lowndes wins every race, his average is 5th and since bathurst his average is 9th including his GC stuff up and average of 7th since that moment

he wraps the championship up on Saturday if he finishes 4th in both races (where he has finished in the last two races)

JDub needs just 100 points to finish 4th in the championship, based on form much more likely than lowndes winning the championship

Will be interesting to see the crowds. The event has been in drastic decline from year one in 2009

It may actually buck the trend, given how the championship has transpired.

If Whincup, or whoever, had run away with it on points, I reckon there'd only be a small improvement on last year compared to the other street circuits. Many have wisened up to the fact that it's one of the worst on the calander for viewing.

I can't see Frosty losing it but if he finds the wall at some point life could get interesting.

There not a support category, they are an on track entertainment activity

The schedule does not include these activities

I've been to every Saturday & Sunday or every Sydney 500 since 2009, and what DRT says is correct

Be interesting to see if the trend is reversed this year on previous years... Grandstands might be up, i wouldn't think GA would be any better given you can't see anything from those spots

I've noticed yet again no concert at the event again this year.......

It could be worse.

Clipsal will have Icehouse and Rob Thomas next year.... no concert looks a little better now?

Some interesting powder room discussion regarding the future of this event.
V8 utes have released next year's calender and the final round is TBA (has been Homebush) .
We are hearing that TBA is going to be a street circuit on the NSW Central Coast.

Just my opinion but i reckon Icehouse and Rob Thomas would be a great duo to see

I remember in the early years of the Homebush event the concerts were trumpeted as a main selling point for the event. I first went to the event in 2011 and we were treated a big concert in ANZ Stadium with Farnham, Hunters & Collectors etc... in 2012 the concert got moved to the grassed park outside the stadium for Jimmy Barnes (i was told due to low pre-event ticket sales that year), then in 2013 the concert was dropped i assumed due to the twilight race finish, however in 2014 there was no concert at all despite the races being moved to earlier in the day.

All the other 'big events' have a concert alongside the race, however for the so-called most important market to crack, Sydney, they offer nothing more than you get at a 'normal' round of the series at Phillip Island or Queensland Raceway.

It's hard to imagine how SOP survived pre 2009 or potentially post 2016 without the v8 supercar events isn't it GTR

Fair enough, and to be honest after I wrote that I thought maybe Icehouse would be worth having a look at. I love live music and usually the Clipsal concert announcements are a good thing, so I was initially disappointed. Also Thurs / Fri still to be locked in.

Homebush has been a dreadful 'big finale' last few years. Being rained out to the point of watching cars struggle to lap behind a safety car means I will likely never attend. Races cut short, and now there's no concert(s). A shame as this last round ticks a lot of boxes particularly when the C'ship win will be determined sometime through the weekend.

Seems controlled. The goverenment reduced its contribution. the event reduced what was provided.

Every street race this year has had increased crowds, I expect this to continue
