And: Ouch! Amazing to see his 'thumb up' while the car is on fire...! I betcha it's the adrenaline, if I would see a crash - and aftermath - like that I would be very, very cautious to report the driver giving the 'ok-signal'. No need to hold back on sending all the available troops to a scene like this! |

He may not have realized he was on fire at that moment, given that the door mirror, and with it the door, are gone. Can not believe he won't wake up for a few mornings with some aches and pains all over, and then the repair bills arrive. Wow.

F1 qualifying on one screen, work on one screen, the Conti race on one screen ... I need at least two more eyes and another screen for timing and scoring.

GTD looked good, GTLM looking pretty good too ..... let's see if anything can catch the Fords and Ferraris.

IMSA monitors boost in real time so cars get penalized for overboosting during the race? Wonderful---what about the normally aspirated cars which get penalized for not having turbos?
I hate to complain but isn't BoP supposed to insure that some really good cars/teams are Not two seconds off the pace when flat out? |

GTD was the same, even though there were no turbo'd cars. Audi's around 1.5, 2 seconds faster than the BMW and Viper.

On GTD, aren't the GT3 Ferrari and BMW turbocharged also? I mean, it is the M6 and the F488 in that class now as well, not just in GTLM.

GTD as a proam class is also more sensible to the drivers hands, for example the times of the #23 vs #540. This could be the next spin, BOP the drivers.

So the BMW turbos were slow, and so were a couple of Porsches. Maybe the BMWs got bad BoP but the Porsches cannot complain as a Porsche went second fastest. As Starfish Primer notes, drivers are wildly different in ability in GTD.
Slowest BMW was .210 quicker than the Viper. Don't know what that means. Wouldn't have expected Michael Marsal to was Ben Keating so badly. Maybe Vuiper needs setup help, maybe something else .... maybe more bad BoP. cannot tell. And while I would have preferred to see Mazda take the pole, I was thrilled to see both DPs and P2s making good time .... and fast .... finally someone at grand Am has figured out that race cars are supposed to be fast. About time. (Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know it is the new surface and new power levels for this season. Rent a sense of humor for the weekend, would you? ) Yeah ... the race shows promise. Six hours is enough time for stuff to happen. Let's see who has every facet polished, and who just has heavy right feet. Real racing. |

It doesn't really count (different layout without the boot) but Davy Jones ran a lap around the NASCAR layout (even with the bus stop) at just over 150mph average speed in 1992 with a Jaguar XJR-14.
Only a modern LMP1 car (from about 2008 onwards) could conceivably beat that right now as far as sportscars go. I also think that IMSA GTPs were faster than the current IMSA cars around the endurance layout with the boot. |
