Atle Gulbrandsen should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Why both GT2 and GT3

Hi

One of the problems with motorsports is that there a too many classes and championships. It's difficult for the random fan to follow.

So why do we have both GT2 and GT3 now? The GT3 cars are almost as fast and much cheaper.

And we have 13 different cars in GT3! I would like to see the GT3 cars in both Le Mans and ALMS.

The new challenge class in ALMS could be great for GT3-cars, wouldn't it?

Another thing about the US. Can you today drive GT3-cars in the Speed World GT Challenge or/and the Grand Am GTs? Maybe those championships also should follow the GT3-rules.

And we also need some Japanese cars in GT3, so maybe the Grand Am RX8 can be converted?

Best regards

In fact, the GT3-cars are becoming faster than their GT2-sisters (certainly in straight line speed) .

Not all GT3's are cheaper. The costs have gotten a bit out of control very quickly.

Which particular GT3 car is more expensive than any GT2 car?

A R8 with full support will run you close to 500,000 Euros.

You can't really blame them for that though, it's like Porsche are deliberately trying to confuse people

If they weren't, it would make sense indeed to have two grand touring classes.

The R8 is said to be joining the ALMS GT Challenge in 2011 or 2012.

That is probably a little strong! I would class it as, 'hoping' to be joining ALMS GTC in the near future.

Nah, its FIA that are deliberately confusing people! Porsche has been using the same designation since the early 90s on their cars, same as FIA used up to 99.
GT1 for "prototype" GTs, GT2 for turbo GTs, GT3 for NA GTs. Just as FIA used to have until the 99 season when GT3 all of a sudden became NGT and then GT2, but Porsche stuck with their naming of GT3 to NA GTs and hence the GT3 is now running in GT2! Blame FIA, not Porsche

But class designations have always changed every couple of years, that couldn't have come as a surprise to Porsche. Plus, having a top class called GT2 when there was no GT1 anymore would have made even less sense
