Slicks or Treads for Historic Race Cars

Whats your ideas with regards highly modified historic race cars such as the Special Saloons and Modsports having to use a controlled treaded moulded tyres for racing, basically an old style road tyre desighn.
Its very hard finding a club or race series to cater for these powerful cars allowing them to use slicks.
I believe race slicks should be used in the dry and grooved race tyres for the wet,its not only safer but its better for the cars original intended set up.
By using the latest tyre technology and various compounds it allows old set up technology to improve.

I think you'll find that Special Saloons [Depending on the Period] mostly used Slicks in thier time.Sometimes even using second hand formula tyres.

Even Modsports E-types, we used ex F1 tyres scrounged from Firestone at Slough, which rather makes a mockery of current regs for these cars re brakes wheel widths etc, when they were used in period. Quicks E had ex Brabham F1 wheels Girling CR calipers on the front, rose jointed rear suspension etc from 1968 on.

Surely, if they used slicks in period, they should be allowed to use them now, anything else would be non historic!
