Nero should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Trans-Am at Surfers Indy

In the early 2000's Trans-Am cars were one of the support classes for the Lexmark Indy 300 at Surfers, however I cannot find any details on this.
Does anyone know who ran, won and which year?

From 1992-1996 there were races billed as 'Tranzam' races on the Indy support bill. Was generally a mixture of Sports Sedans, Thundersports, Group A touring cars and New Zealand Tranzam cars.

I can't remember them running on the Gold Coast after 1996 though

I am pretty sure 1997 was the last time the Sport Sedans ran at Indy.

1997 Results here
I have this or perhaps an earlier race on Video somewhere. Sports Sedans on the Gold Coast, wouldn't happen today sadly.

Some of the races could be better described as a butcher's picnic but they always had plenty of entries.

Results for the televised races...

1992 - 1st Brian Smith

All three Frank Gardner BMW's ended up in the wall.

1993 - 1st Brian Smith

1994 - 1st Brian Smith

I do remember some from years ago that involved the 2 B&H BMW's and Morris in a Diet Coke BMW. If i remember correctly it was some of the best racing i had seen at Indy. Watching the BM's launching off the curbs lap after lap was sensational. Was it Smith in the Alfa?, Monteresso Escort, Wall supra, Bailey supra, Carling 300zx and Crick in the prelude. Awesome stuff
