Where did all the Escorts go?

A freind and I were having a discussion about the Holfeld Escort. We know it used to be owned by John Haffey but whose was it before that?
Which got me thinking where have all the other Escort Supercars gone?
Barry Squibb's
John Moloney's
Dermot Carnegie's
Pat Doran's (the Panasonic Batteries one and the Hydrex one)
Also the group 'N' versions of
Richard Hutton and Nick Jones

Think Pat still has his but not sure.

Which one was the one Manning used?

I think the Holfeld/Haffey car was Squibbs and Manning using Moloneys? (may be the other way around?)

Carnegies engine and running gear went into the Focus.

Seems there aren't actually many cars about - they just change hands or morph into something else (The 306 is another good example of this - onto its 5th owner now?)

winnie has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
From memory i think the original Doran escort was bought by Moloney who then sold it to Manning who reshelled it into his Puma.

The original Schanche / John Smith / Squibb escort was sold to Mike Endean in exchange for new X-track transmission for the Gartrac built and JoMin powered escort that was sold to Haffy who later sold it to Holfield (i think)

Dorans last escort was ex-Carlos Sainz.

I remember the original Steve Palmer escort - what a pig - i think he scrapped it.

Andy Grants escort must be the oldest in rallycross - its got to be a good ten years old. Must soon be due for a re-shell.

I had forgotten about Palmer's shed, I never saw that thing going well.

Surely Bob Gooding's will be the oldest in rallycross

Also, didn't Jeremy Crush have a Escort supercar for a while.

That's a whole new thread. The car that can trace it's roots furthest back. I think Bob Gooding's is propapbly the oldest, but............

I understand that the ex Dave Bellerby, now Michael Coyne's Nova is an ex Challenge one which I believe was Barry McGuigan's.

How old is Sue and Barries Porsche? Surely that must be a contender for the oldest in rallycross in recent years even though it is 'inactive' now.

Mine is the ex-Tony Bell MR2. Must have been built mid 80's. I'll check with Tony on Monday. How about James Harrold's Beetle. It used to be his Dad's Peter Harrold.

Now there's a thought, I seem to remember reading somewhere that Peter finish 2nd in a European round at Lydden in a Beetle in the late 70s, if it was the same shell then it would probably be very hard to beat.

Wasn't Jeremy Crsuh's car the ex Mike Taylor developments built Terry Maynard one?.

Terry told me there was at least 60k's worth of car there and he let it go for 20k.

Incidently Terry owns the ex Mavropolous Lotus Esprit
The Palmer car was built by Gordon Spooner Engineering as they built a few Escort RX5's which where to compete in Rallies and Rallycross

I think you will find that in the ninties there wer a few 4wd turbo cars that you would be hard pushed to find again now.
Remember Mike Qauife also had a Mk5 Escort BDT, as did Richard Hutton. Think Qauifes went to the Dutch guy in the green.yellow colours. Jan Langenberg, thats it!
Also Warwick Barbes drove a Sierra turbo 4wd aswel in Quaife colours. And rememebr Mike Jennings 4wd/S Fiesta, that used a BDT engine aswell I think!
A few went to the Iversen guys, I not sure where all the Xtrac cars went, I think the ex Welch car that went to Bolneset must be around somewhere

I think Mike Jennings car was brought by Steve Mundy, which has since morphed into his Focus, via his ealier Fiesta.

Originally I seem to remember that Mike Jennings experimented with four wheel steer in that car.

Think you might have wires crossed a little here.
Mike Quaife converted his into a circuit car for the the thundersaloons championship. I think he still owns it.
Richards Huttons was probably impounded
Bolneset still has the shell of the car. I know the engine now lives in a mk1 escort!!!!
I doubt the iversons bought anything second hand as they were so wealthy. Of the two escorts they had one was redeveloped into ERC type spec but to the Swedish regs. The other one Dermot bought.

The car Jeremy bought from maynard was a second car his first was allegedly a sister car to martin schanche's version but dont know where it went. I know he had both for a while.
The GSE cars were built for Palmer and Jan langenberg

Am sure Jonh Moloney had one of the Iversen cars y'know!
As for Quaife, I am presuming then that they built cars for Langenberg, Palmer and Quaife. All East Cosat racing BDTE powered.
As for Hutton, he didnt have it very long and was soon in Group N.

Moloney had Dorans old one as it was RHD. Dermot had an Iverson one that was originally built for Thor Holm and the Iversons had a Schanche replica with the exhaust and transmission running inside the car.

Excellent, I am not going to argue with a poster called BigDick!!

If I remember, Dorans had a lof of Ford stuff on it I think, he was quite involved with Ford after going so well in 92. But really Squibby was going better in his car, whcih was awesome and should have won in Holland ahd the exhaust gases not got oin the car and half killed poor Barry!

I think also Martin Iversen did a lot of development work with transmissions and the MSport team before they got the big works Ford conatrct in WRC. I rememebr an article in CCC where Wilson was teaming up with Iversen using an auto clutch or summat, may have been the year he raced over here in uk?

Doran actually had two escorts the first one was scrapped after a year as it was a wreck. It had 2 prominent accidents one at the Internations at the Nurburgring (I think) and one at Buxtehude the last round of the ERC, it had countless other prangs etc...
