Yes - sounds very american and 'disney like'. ..... or is this the Portugese equivalent of 'starting up again in the wife's name'?

Yes but that I am told is the correct name for circuit- PARK ALGAR(VE). I'll revert to calling it Portimao just to keep the peace.....

Dear Historic Racing entrants, drivers and followers,
The Estoril Historic Festival was the first Historic event in the Iberian Peninsula in 2003, organized by us. After three annual events - 2003, 2004 and 2005 - we are going back to the famous Estoril circuit next October (18/21) with the backing of the local authorities (Municipality of Cascais).
After thee years in the Algarve we had to move on and resolve our contract with that circuit because of their gigantic financial problems and their unsustainable attitude towards suppliers and collaborating helpers who - most of them - are still waiting to receive their small and overdue retribution (alegedly also all track marshals for quite some time) apart from the great majority of the various suppliers of last year's Historic Festival. The situation may evolve negatively and provoke serious risks to the organization of an Historic Festival.
All this is most sad, causing us to return to Estoril where we found an encouraging support from the Mayor of Cascais.
Therefore, in spite of three Series Coordinators having decided to take the risk of going back to Algarve with their grids, we are in full progress with our Estoril Historic Festival whose racing program will include 16 races for 10 grids, including FIA HFO's last round of the year.
As you may know, the Estoril Coast has been one of Europe's top seaside resorts and destinations where some of the world's top events have taken place in the last decade.

Some times (as in the last 30 days)temperatures in Estori have been 2 to 4º warmer than in Portimão.

Yes, I think this is not the best solution - to have two meetings on the same weekend, but there is nothing we can do but to assure all entrants that the Estoril Historic Festival is going ahead with the same quality we have been doing all our historic events since 2003 (it will be our 10th historic meeting). And now with the support of the Mayor of Cascais (Estoril Coast) we can assure entrants that this will be a top event.

The only thing I've seen here is a press release from Portimão saying the event was a go so I thought Estoril was a scam to hussle more money. Probably it was and nobody bit the bait so the Estoril guys are still at it. Problem is, as already mentioned, Portugal is kinda bankrupt at the moment! Therefore, running 2 events is the most useless thing ever and especially on the same weekend. They are messing with the people who make them their money... the competitors, which they'll probably lose with these circus acts.
I hope someone is reading this stuff.

They better get their acts together because 7 months to go and people need to plan flights and logistics.
Andrew, all I can say is that for ten years I have NOT "messed with competitors" who, I believe - because I was one for 10 years (1964 to 1973) - are the reason for us, promotores, to put our events together!
This is certaunly not a "scam to husssle more money" and no "bait". The "Estoril guys" certainly are at it - to organize an Historic Festival qith the usual quality - on and off track - for entrants. Althoug our countryhas been having terrible financial and economic problems due to 8 years of Socialist gov bad management we have had a behaviour which has bdeen highly praised by IMF.
I quite agree that having two events on the same weekend is crazy but we can not move the Estoril event due to being a FIA HFO round (GP Masters the previous weekend at Donington).
I did not decide to have the Estoril Histoeric Festival the same w/e as the Algarve event. This date was chosen by me a year ago. The Algarve circuit decided to run thjeir event the same w/e.

Apart from 4 single seaters' grids the Estoril Historic Festioval will also have races for:

- Touring Open Classics of Groups N, A, 2 and 4 from 1982 to December 31, 1989.

Ok,

Can someone clarify what races are being held at which circuit so that I can plug them into the calendar please? for my part I'd like to run the Capri with JDC at one of them (subject to other commitments), but I don't know where.

It's some years since we've been to Portugal but I like both the Estoril/Lisbon area and the Portimao.

Peter, as you have probably gathered from his posts Francisco (Santos) is organising the Estoril meeting, so is in best position to tell what is racing there.

In interest of balance, at Portimao the list is AFAIK-

Motor Racing Legends Stirling Moss Trophy
Motor Racing Legends Pre War Sports Cars
Motor Racing Legends JD Classics Challenge
HMRN (Carol Spragg) U2TC
HMRN '1000km' 2hr race (1964-1971 World Sports Cars)
Automobiles Historiques (Flavien & Vanessa Marcais) GT&SCC

That is as of now, but would guess that both events are still open to additions or subtractions!

As I am (unless things change!) taking a couple of cars down to Portimao for GT&SCC my intention is to enter the Escort in JD Challenge.

Am not ruling out a trip to Estoril, but having enjoyed 3 fantastic trips to the Algarve it is taking time to get head round the idea of new venue- although it is being said that Estoril had a historic meeting back in 2003?

Yes, I started the ESTORIL Historic Festival back in 2003 and it went on until 2005. Now with the backing of the Mayor of Cascais (Estoril Coast) I am returning the original Historic Festival to the Estoril circuit which has been revamped since 2005.

ESTORIL HISTORIC FESTIVAL: May I clarify the situation: I created the Algarve Historic Festival and ran it for three years. Last January, 30 my conscience forced me to resolve the contract with the administration of the Portimão circuit due to their persistant attitude towards all suppliers and collaborators (from water supply to race marshals) of never giving any information to anyone about when to expect to be paid. This careless attitude was very unconfortable for us once we were the "face" of the event. Then we decided to move to Estoril where we started historic festivals in Iberia back in 2003.
The fact the Algarve circuit's CEO has decided together with three British series coordinators to continue running an historic event at Portimão has nothing to do with - it will be their and the drivers' risk.
We are running the ESTORIL HISTORIC FESTIVAL having this year's last round of the FIA HFO Championship (our 2003 TGP event at Estoril was voted "Best of the Year") and seven other grids. This will be offiicially announced by the Mayor of Cascais and us in May.
So, there is not doubt whatsoever that the Estoril Historic Festival - our 10th historic motor racing event - is on october 18/21.

Francisco, Thanks for the replies and clarifications.
My comment "they" was mainly at all sides. I'm all to used to seeing Portuguese event organizers not being treated fairly by each other (like what is happening right now with the new prototype championship vs. GT interests). That comment was in no means towards you guys but to all. For me it was absolutely unbelievable the news coming out and the sources from Estoril seemed vague at the time. But your arrival here certainly helps and I'm well aware that the guys down south are no Saints!

I live in Lisbon so you can count me in as a spectator at least. Please start advertising it around the region and on the web/paper press (numerous places have large groups of aficioinados, like on facebook and the different magazines out there).

If you need anything feel free to PM me.

I just had an email from HFO saying Estoril is cancelled. Any ideas??

See below

____________________

Dear Competitors

Following the cancellation of the Estoril event by the organisers, we have been considering the possibility of adding a replacement.

We have been offered the opportunity to participate in an event at the Spanish circuit of Jerez and the organisers have offered to provide 3 nights hotel accommodation (1 room) for each entry.

The event will take place on the weekend of October 12th-14th which is one week after our Paul Ricard event.

Please let me know if you would be interested in attending this event and if it would affect your participation at Paul Ricard.

Regards

Dan

I've bumped this onto front page with a request that the title reverts to 'Algarve Historic Festival, Portimao' or something like that, please?

My understanding from UK organisers is that the event is very much on with grids as listed in post #63.

The newly announced Jerez event is weekend BEFORE Portimao so an opportunity to do both events if anyone so desires.

Sounds like a bloody good holiday to me...

Does anyone know of any recent updates on this event please, i.e. the Algarve event scheduled for October 18th - 21st - just wondered how definite / secure it is yet?

The Autrodrome website mentions it and I've seen mention of certain series going there but it still seems a bit vague / disjointed for anyone wanting to book flights etc. Or maybe I'm missing something?

Promised Mrs C a holiday in October and might suggest the Algarve - the racing would be purely coincidental of course.

Gary, I'll get an update over the weekend and post it here. Hopefully there will be time to 'bend the odd ear' at Classic. AFAIK all the previously mentioned grids are still going but not sure about HFJ. It is on their calendar as a non championship race.

In previous years everything took a while to come together and don't suppose it will be any different this time! Fabulous trip so fingers crossed....
